Vinyl Top86bowtie 12-06-2004, 07:33 PM Need help. Anybody have any suggestions on how to go about replacing the vinyl top for a 4dr 86 Caprice Classic? Someone suggested I try Maaco. Can anyone tell me what ballpark I would be in or should be in price wise to get it done? If anyone has any opinions or comments I'd appreciate it. TommySS 12-06-2004, 09:04 PM Definitely let a body shop do it. Doesn't have to be Maaco, but who knows what's under the top you currently have (like rust holes). I've never been a fan of vinyl tops, and if I bought a car with one, I'd have the body shop take it off (but that's just me) 86bowtie 12-06-2004, 09:48 PM Thanks Tommy. Im not the biggest fan of them either and I also wonder whats underneath the current top. Its just at the current moment, a new top is a little more feasible financially than having it taken off and then repainting the whole car. But I'll look into a few body shops in my area. TommySS 12-07-2004, 06:56 PM You have an excellent point. Since it has to come up anyway, they'll be looking for rust holes and can patch 'em before installing the new one. spoazzy1 12-07-2004, 11:38 PM I currently am doing the same shopping around for mine. I just found some names of local body shops that do them, when I get some prices I can post them so you have a comparison. I'm in SW Florida, not sure where you are located, but it may help you out. 86bowtie 12-08-2004, 11:31 AM That would be cool man. Im located in Delaware, about 30 minutes outside Philadelphia. I just came from a body shop today, they quoted $770. The vinyl top would be $300, the rest labor, we're talking 8 hours of labor. So I'm gonna keep shopping around. Keep me posted and I'll keep you posted. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
