I have nearly gotten run over at my school over a dozen times because they were 5'5" and couldn't see over the steering wheel. My dad's gf can't drive for shit, and she tries to drive our Denali. She's about 5'4", rather round, and has to hug the steering wheel to even drive it, and I cannot tell you how many people she nearly kills.

Personally, as an SUV driver, I never use my truck as muscle, unless I'm dealing with uncooperative drivers, and at that point of time, they are asking for it.

The art of the SUV is one that takes practice, and something that men do better. Sorry.

The most dangerous driver is one that's only trying to get from A to B and cares nothing about the whole driving part. They are in a hurry, tailgait, speed, and have no interest in improving their skills - the stereotypical "soccer mom." People that enjoy the driving part usually take the time to constantly improve their skills, and pay attention when they drive!

I hate when they come and up right on your tail at a light, and posistion there vehicle so the SUV's ights shine right onto the side view mirror. I always move mine so it reflects it straight back.

back on topic, I have a sad nagging feeling she is going to try something like she lost control of the vehicle, and she only meant to scare them. I know its all bullshit, but it wouldn't surprise me if they tried it.

Heep - I also angle my mirrors if they don't get it to hit them right back, generally they do get it after a while. I had a jackass in a truck recently, traffic was backed up, usual friday evening traffic and this jerk is on my ass, where am I supposed to go when there's a billion other cars in front of me? So I angled my mirror to hit him back and he eventually gave me some distance. It pisses me off. I'm getting my windows tinted because of it. when someone won't freaking get that their headlights are bvothering me I will be a bitch and stop hard at a light or something so they won't want to be close to me :evillol:

That is exactly my husbands problem. Its funny cause he drives the speed limit, never speeds because its unsafe according to him. But yet he doesn't care about improving his driving skills, he doesn't pay attention, doesn't care about other drivers, etc. he's one of those that will sit in the damn left lane going the speed limit or under and NOT ever move over for people. Then bitch when he gets passed on the right, etc. and I tell him it isn't his place to decide how fast others go, its their ticket if they get nailed. But he doesn't get it. Like merging, he doesn't look until the last minute, drives me insane I dunno how many times he's almost hit by doing that. I've been in 2 wrecks, one I wasn't even in. A moron with a van, with no license or insurance backed into it while it was parked. He lived across the street from my dad, total loser. He filled his van up with trash and had no rearview or side mirros on it and didn't even look when he backed up, just went flying back across the road and hit my car that was parked on my dad's property. Then the ass just left. then the other dude, I was going down a busy road and I'd just crossed an intersection and some guy stopped to turn into this gas station, but the exit/entrances are only big enough for one car and he stopped at the 2nd one. Well apparently there was a van sitting there trying to turn left across 5 lanes of traffic on this busy street. So this guy in the right lane stops, backs everyone up and this lexus almost pulled into me trying to get into the left lane so I hit the brake and 'd just taken my foot off the brake when the dumb fuck in the van pulls out like maybe 30ft infront of me and STOPS across my lane! I slammed into him going about 30 in a 35mph zone, it was raining and there was just no way to fucking stop. And of course no license or insurance. Then the asshole had the nerve to tell me I should've stopped. The only thing that kept me from beating the shit out of him was my husband. So he wonud up with like over $10,000 in debt from that, plus all his tickets and stuff. But because of those 2 morons I wouldn't say men shouldn't drive vans even though I am more wary of van drivers now lol.

And in my husbands truck I nearly wrecked once, hit some black ice, almost the same thing that happened to him. I was turning left, hit a patch of black ice, spun and almost slammed into a fence, but I regained control and obviously didn't hit the fence or anything else.

Oh I've done it, but it just makes the whole world behind me so dark that I have to squint and stare at the mirror for an unsafe amount of time just to see what's going on back there...

Fortunately my current car has factory blue-tinted side mirrors - blue tint reduces glare from visible white light :)

There are a few differences, but the way your husband drives sounds a lot like the way my father drives - and I've been riding back and forth to work with him everyday for the past couple months! It's seriously scary sometimes. He'll tailgait people, which I don't like in the first place anyways, but if you are extremely attentive and skillful you can do it *somewhat* safely. He's not though. Also he seems to have trouble discerning the speed of the person in front of him, or, more crucially, how hard they're braking. He also apparently sees no further than the car directly in front of him - I always watch up to 3 or 4 cars in front of me and when the lead guy brakes, I prepare to. The only time I'm ever "blinded" is when they're FAR too close. If they stop around 1 car length back or even a little bit less, it's not a problem - it's all just the ones that seem to think getting as close as possible is a sport. With those people, if I'm on a hill I usually roll back (5-speed) a few inches more than usual to try to give them a little scare :evillol:

Just curious about the people who said flipping the tab on the rear-view mirror doesn't let you see enough.

Um, what else do you need to see, flipping it back let's you see their headlights without the glare, and isn't that all you need to see, the other vehicles? I mean wtf else do you need to see?

And tinting your windows will only make it harder to see, also I don't have electric side-view mirrors, I have to to do it manually, so whenever somone's headlights has glare, I just use my hand to block the glare, doesn't take much to lift your hand up.
