I have a 97 mercury villager and the other day my oil light came on. I checked the oil and it was fine. I continued to drive it home (not far) and when it was idle the engine sounded like it was revved up, the oil light stayed on, and now it won't start at all. Any ideas?

Does the engine still turn over when you try to start it? If the oil pump fails, it could cause the oil light to turn on--and your dipstick oil level will be normal. If the engine ran out of oil and froze up, then the engine may not crank at all. However, if it turns over well when you try to start it, then I have no idea what the problem is.
Good luck.

i think youre right on the money. oil pumps go out and its not circulating oil from pan to motor cuasing alot of friction and finally siezing it up. if it rotates let us know.
