need help to figure out whats wrong with my carcaminsc5 12-06-2004, 01:19 PM 95 civic dx 5spd My car wont start when it is in gear, and its hard as crap to get the car out of gear. But if i can get it outta gear it will start in Neutral.....(but cant push the cluth in and go threw the gears) and I can turn my car off after letting it run for a few mins and it will go threw the gears somewhat fine. anyone know what it could be? a local shop told me it was the master cyclinder and clutch slave. Miataracer 12-06-2004, 03:21 PM yes, for one reason or another your clutch is not releasing when you push the pedal. so that means it will still be dragging and making it very hard to start when it is in gear. it might even try to creep forward if it is on a level surface with the brake off. anyways, you must have air in your clutch line. the local shop is pretty likely to be right about it being the master cylinder OR the clutch slave. i kind of doubt it would be both. your clutch master cylinder pokes throught the fire wall and can be seen just above the clutch pedal arm under the dash. take a look down there with a light so you can see if the tip of the master cylinder where the rod connects to the pedal has been leaking. if that hasn't been leaking then it is probably going to be your slave cylinder which is on the front of the tranny right down by the radiator. carefully pull the boot back and peak in there and see if you see any fluid. once you figure out where the leak is, get your part and replace it. both the master cylinder and the slave cylinder are pretty easy to repalce Miataracer 12-06-2004, 03:24 PM the clutch master cylinder is 88.83 and the slave cylinder is 55.99 from www.hondaautomotiveparts.com Here is a link with the prices and a picture.
