1985 318i no start with cold snap....boulder74 12-04-2004, 01:35 PM My 1985 318i suddenly will not start. It was fine last winter and just quit with this latest cold snap. I have checked the fuses. The battery is good and I'm quite sure the spark is as well (new plugs). The car has the 4 cyl motor and 165000 miles. Any help?? thanks in advance. Celsdogg 12-04-2004, 02:30 PM does it turnover and try to start? or does it do nothing at all? boulder74 12-04-2004, 02:48 PM Yes. The starter works fine. When trying to start, all the sounds are normal except it won't fire. I did test the start valve and the clod start valve, they both click with 12 Vdc applied to the positive terminals. I pulled the fuel filter and it flows fuel backwards fine but it just trickles going the other way. boulder74 12-04-2004, 05:53 PM I changed the fuel filter to no avail. The spark IS good, I tested it. I checked the pump by disconnecting the line and trying to start the car, and it's not doing a thing. I also checked the voltage at the pump power leads, there was nothing when trying to crank the engine. I have checked all the fuses, twice. Anyone have any idea if there is something else simple to be looking for? Thanks...... tyro2001 12-05-2004, 11:21 PM maybe the lines could be clogged ionizer 01-27-2005, 05:27 AM id guess its ice-pluggs probably in the headers. Mark E M 01-27-2005, 10:59 PM Try this, take some wire from a 12 volt battery and jump to the positive leed on the fuel pump. if it starts working then the problem is the wires in your fuel pump circuit. If not then your fuel pump gave up. At 165,000 you got way more then most on one fuel pump. Hope this helps. Later,,Mark. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
