Help needed

I have a 92 ,318 until this morning had been running ok.Went to go out this morning and it wouldnt start.
The engine was turning over,but not firing.
Have checked distributer = fine
spark = fine
battery and alternater both less than 3 weeks old ,showed working fine on reading tests.
No fuel being drawn up.
Mechanic has told ne that i need to replace the ecu at a cost of £1000, anyone any other ideas first ,on what welse i should check before i have to spend out this money plus labour.
any information grately accepted, do not have manual anymore as mechanic has took it to read up on so at a loss.

1. Get book back. 2. check fuel pump circuit, and fuel pump. 3. replace fuel filter.

A trip to a bone yard, to get a part from a donor should save a little money.

Price should be about £100, or less.

With the back seat out.. If you turn the key to start then let the key go, but not in the off pos. you should be able to hear the puel pump if it is working.. if not you will have to check for power back there, if you have power I would replace the pump, if you don't have power you could check the relay next...
