My fuel pump locking ring assembly is severly rusted. I can't figure out if the parts can be replaced, and if so, how to replace them and what parts are required. Does anyone have any instructions or diagrams that show how this assembly is made?

If you have to replace it order the part first then you also have an idea on what you are remouving.
I replaced my spanner nut. To remouve it I used a flat head screwdriver and tapped it out. Scape most of the rust with the screwdriver so you can cye what you are doing.

My son recently replaced the fuel pump in his 90 Escort. It was also severly rusted. I can't provide much detail, since I wasn't helping him with the installation. I belive he cut the locking ring loose with side cutters, since it was siezed. I wanted to alert you to the fact that he experienced problems with the pump flange seal and this has not yet been resolved. He now only fills the tank halfway or he gets a sloshing leak.

Had I been there during the install I would have double checked the gap to be sealed and the thickness of the seal ring. It sounds like the seal ring distorted during the installation, so it may be worthwhile to tack the seal to the pump flange with small amount of gasket adhesive and let it set before performing the installation. Sorry for the indirect info

Well, I put it in but don't know if the leak is fixed since I found a broken strut and spring on the rear suspension :banghead:
