2001 Tacoma Trailer Lights and Transmissiontayloel 11-30-2004, 01:53 PM I have a 2001 Prerunner V6 SR5 TRD (93K miles) and the trailer running lights will not work when pulling a trailer (breaks and turn indicators work fine). They have worked in the past. I used a volt meter and I'm not getting power at the pug. I've checked all fuses and can't find the problem. Any suggestions? Also, my transmission is making a noise when not under stress. If I'm just maintaining my speed on the highway it makes noise. If I let off the gas or get on it, the noise stops. It's not the front end or axle rap. Any suggestions? I'm greatful for any help. Thanks bangbg 12-02-2004, 06:26 PM Does the noise sound like a squealing fan belt? If it does, the zirc fittings on the driveshaft need lube. Hope this helps. As far as the lights, I have Altezza's on my 2000 V-6 TRD Prerunner and after I pull a trailer I have to replace the bulbs because they burn out. Who knows? travis bryant 12-23-2004, 03:02 AM Yo- I Had The Same Problem For 6 Yrs. With My Trailer Lights. I Have A 98 Taco Extra Cab And A 04 Double Cab. And I Pull A Detail Trailer With Both Trucks On A Daily Bases.what You Need To Do Is Go To The Dealer And Get A Factory Wiring Harness And Junk The Pep Boys Harness!it Costs $160 For My 04 And About $120 Or So For My 98.its Eeasy To Install And Plugs In To The Stock Wiring Harness.both Of Mine Have Been Working For 4-5 Months Now. tiddrma 05-20-2005, 11:29 PM I just installed a receiver hitch and wiring on my 2001 crew cab. I used the hoppy wiring that just plugs into the tail light connectors (no cutting). Reading the above posts ... can I expect to keep burning out bulbs ?!? I was wondering if anyone has any information on the 'factory trailer' wiring. Does it also go to each tail light or does it have just one plug that goes to a central location ?? Is there any internal electronics or is it just wires and plugs ? $120 sounds kind of exspensive for just wires. I don't have a trailer but on the VERY rare occasion need the ability to tow one. I hate to spend $120 for nothing but also don't want to have to change bulbs everytime I tow a trailer .... or possibly damage the truck wiring. PS. I only just installed the hitch so I don't know if it will burn out the bulbs yet. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
