stereo installation

i have an 1986 toyota tercel and i am trying to install a stereo, however my brother removed the old stereo before he gave me the car and cannot remember which wires are which within the car, if anybody knows the wiring or which color does what. i know black should be ground and red should be power but it doenst seem to be working so any help would be great thanks

well, i regret to inform you that in the tercel toyota royally fucked up the colors ... they aren't even close to what they're suppose to be ( in a normal installation ) if the harness connector hasn't been cut, i would suggest purchasing a harness adaptor... really makes your life easier... lol i have a 1990 tercel and had the SAME problem. if it lacks the harness connector, i would go out and buy a haynes or chilton manual and see if that would provide you with a wiring diagram.

I see it's been a few months since your post but I riped out the stock stereo in my 96 Tercel to install a JVC cd player w/remote and I have a wiring diagram for the stereo wires if any one needs it let me know. But let me make it clear the wiring diagram is for the car NOT the JVC stereo.

Hi Vixen5659. I would really appreicate if you could send me the radio wiring diagram that you mentioned for the 1990 Toyota Tercel. I have been having a really bad time trying to install a CD player.

have you taken a look at installdr.com? it gives you complete instructions for 91-95 but i have a 97 and it was the same for mine...
