could anyone tell me what is the normal operating temp? also what is the temp to turn on the fan?

it's running very hot(210+) if allowed to idle. the electric fan doesn't come on with temp, if you turn on the a/c the fan comes on and it cools off.

The temperature switch for the fans should come on at 238 degrees.

The cooling fans have two circuits that activate the fans:
1. A low speed circuit that activates when the AC is selected
2. A high speed circuit that activates by engine temperature via the temperature switch.

The coolant temperature switch is different from the temperature sensor used for the dash gages. It is located in the intake maniforld behind the throttle body.

If you suspect that the temperature switch is not working, you can test this out by:
1. Turn the AC off.
2. Run the car at idle to heat the water up until the cooling fan comes on or an overheating idiot light comes on. Note: It may take 10 minutes or so to heat all the water in the cooling system.

If I can believe the temperature gauge in my car, my engine's temperature ranges between 185 - 210 degrees.

great, it's running around 200-210 or so. (would be nice if the temp guage had numbers on it though)

the fan did come on before the idiot light so I guess it's ok.

thanks
