I have a 1992 gmc jimmy that I just completely restored. Everything seems to be working fine on it except lately my abs has been kicking in when I apply the brakes (but the wheels are not locked up) anywhere between 25 and 15 mph. This problem only started happening after I had the bearing replaced on the front right and the abs light is on which coincidentally, the truck seems to dive to the right as well while braking. The abs is working when the wheels get locked up. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance and great forum, long time reader.

When you replaced the hubs, did you replace the dust shields? The abs sensors are integrated into them, they could be worn and not working properly anymore.

Ahhhhh, they were not replaced and I will do that first thing tomorrow. Thanks a lot, much appreciated.

Not a probl, let us know how it turns out. I ended up switching to 2001 front brake system (everything is the same style up to 97) 98 to current integrates the ABS sensors into the hub itself. Makes it a bit easier...:)

they seemed to think it was the abs module since my abs is still working, albeit at the wrong time (while braking in between 30 and 15 mph and wheels are not locked). I guess if it were the sensor located on the dust shield, the module would completely disable abs and therefore, since my abs is still working he says it's probably the module. Of course this problem only started after i had work done on the front end (bearings) so I thought it was definately the sensor. Does this make sense before i fork out all this money?

I would still lean more towards the sensor. I've rarely heard of the ABS module itself going bad. Very few and far between stories.

i appreciate your help on this. i know absolutely nothing about abs. is it true though that if that sensor was bad, the module would shut abs completely off and thus abs wouldn't be working at all? alternatively can i just disconnect the module until i get this resolved??

You can disconnect the module (do it at the positive cable, you will see a quick connect there) But it will set the ABS light on the dash. No, i a sensor is being erratic it won't always set the light.
