Dual exhaust for a 8.0L V-10

Anyone tried putting duals on a v-10? we've tried many different types on mine and cannot get a good sound from it. we're running no converters, and dual mufflers with 21/4 inlet and 21/2 outlets with 21/2 running all the way out the rear. anyone had any luck getting a throaty sound? if so what did you use?

V10's don't sound good because they always have 2 cylinders firing at the same time. Sounds just like a loud V6 firing on only 5 cylinders, and a V6 sounds bad enough.

Hey now, I put the dual turbo's on my V6 3.9, and while it may not be exactly throaty.. It has its own distinctive sound that isn't anywhere near 'weak.'

My brother put custom duals on his. It surely doesn't have the rumble of a V8; kind of a buzz a little like a V6 but more threatening.

you nailed the sound on the head. like a sick six cylinder. I guess i'm just gonna have to deal with it. :disappoin

BamaDodgenMX, you'd like the way my truck sounds...

Why's that? Other than the obvious that you've probably got your pipes hooked to a V8.

3.9 with a single in dual out Thrush glasspack. Sounds good at idle, but rev it over 1200 rpm and it sounds like rice. Does bark at high revs though.

so nothing good can be done to the V10s exhaust wise?

I don't believe so. If I had one, I'd leave the exhaust quiet.

I believe I read somewhere that is the reason Dodge claimed for sagging v-10 sales (Undesirable sound). I did hear one on the street that sounded pretty good, but I have no idea what he had on it. I've thought about doing mine in duals and was wondering what they used on the SRT 10.

I have a 99 Ram 2500 V-10 4X4 and much like you wanted to improve the exhaust note. I started out just changing the factory muffler to dual turbo mufflers and adding the left tail pipe (It came with dual cats that dumped into one big muffler with a single tail pipe). Results: Too quiet. Sorta sounded good around 2500-2800 RPMs but still not loud enough. I then went to Flowmasters for more sound. Still not loud enough. Put on glass packs - No change. Okay, it's got 10 cylinders, what's holding all the noise in? Let's open it up. Took off the mufflers and the converters and ran straight exhaust all the way back. Well it's about time! It would rattle windows a mile away when I started it up in the morning but at least I could hear what a V-10 sounded like. Right now it has 48" glass packs with 2 1/4" tail pipes. It's mellow without being too loud. Best sounding V-10 I've ever heard. But, I haven't heard a whole lot. Seems people just want to drive em now days.

Happy trails!
