clock and tripometer go to zero

my @'96 Passat 1.8 has recently had the usual maf sensor problem which are now hopefully fixed after a clean but lately when starting in the morning the clock and tripometer go to zero . any ideas .

Evidentally they are loosing power in the start position, perhaps a sign the ignition switch is starting to have problems.

If the battery isn't so wak that it totally loses power when cranking then replacing the electrical part of the ignition switch is the next choice. It's somewhat complicated for a do-it-yourself job.
