Hi,

Upon starting my truck this morning it contiues to produce light colored smoke and when accelerating it slightly faulters and produces more smoke. Engine did not reach optimum operating temp and the outside air temp was in the 30's. Any information about this problem would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

It's cold outside.

Cold is the issue. anything below freezing will make these things smoke a bit and run rough for a little while, let it warm up properly, and you shouldn't have any trouble

Thanks for your response. I let the truck warm up for about 15 minutes and the temperature gauge registered about 160. The truck was still smoking upon acceleration but very little at idle.
It is warmer today (mid 40s) so I will let the truck warm up more. The thermostat seems to open about 190 so I"ll let the truck fully warm up and take it for a drive.

It's not the truck that has a problem, it's not even a problem. The exhaust is only making vapor trails because it's cold outside. The hot exhaust being exposed to the cold atmosphere creates a fog. It's not hard to understand. I can't believe you don't know what this is.

Thanks for your assistance. I started the truck today and let it warm up for about five minutes and then went for a drive. When the truck got to full operating temperature the smoking quit. I checked with a friend of mine that is familiar with Cummins diesels and found out this is quite commo

Thanks again,

Dugan
