You do realize that a stock GSR runs out of gear at like 150, and it doubt it has the aerodynamics to stay stable at that speed.

Anyways. Fastest i've gone is about 160, and it starts to get INCREDIBLY scary at that speed:eek:

me driving: my '97 STI Version 4...180KPH+ on the Tomei...limiter kicked in and an S2000 (limiter obviously cut) blew by me...I figure I got at least 190 before I got pulled back tho...was only at about 5000rpm

my friend driving: HCR31 (Skyline GTS-R)...somewhere around 260 KPH on the Tomei...

not too many places you can race on the highways here in the Tokyo area anymore...well, at least not without getting caught...cameras everywhere, not to mention cops with GT-Rs and NSXs...rumors of a Porsche too...

hey what did you do about the speed limiter of the car. coz i know a stock car wont get that fast just because of the speed limiter.

yeah...not sure where the new ones are tuned, but I do know that the R32 and R33 GT-Rs were tuned at Electra. There's something that I've adhered to here...unless your car can clear the 300kph mark, don't run from the highway cops. whether or not its true, I'd rather not find out. speeding fines aren't as bad as Finland, but damn are they expensive. A friend got one for going 40kph over the limit...$500 fine...he got lucky. There are fines that can go upwards of several thousands of dollars.

The speedomiter read ~ 115 and it was only at 4k RPM and it maxes out at 7.5. I also have larger tires than stock so maybe around 120 in a Yellow Ford Escape.

My Nova.. old engine 350 w/ 280-310hp 320-340ft/lbs tq (weak sauce!) with 3.90 gears... maxed out at 130ish at about 4800rpm...

speedo only goes to 120

but i figure we did about 130... cause we held it for 18 miles at 4 A.M. trying to get home in a hurry in about 11 minutes. had 2 friends in the car with me who were on constant highway patrol alert.

we passed a minivan who was probably doing 80ish like it was standing still.

its fun letting go of the steering wheel at 120+ and the car tracks straight... even takes the curves with out any input to the wheel (only if the freeway is banked correctly! < this is for the LA drivers who have a gun in one hand and a cell phone, drink, baby, newspaper, putting on make up with the other hand. so we dont have to use our hands to drive!)

Ask Terminal Velocity he was riding shotgun ... i think he wanted to stick his head out the window and yell at passing cars (not many at 4am).. i said it would 'disrupt the air flow' and we'd crash... so he didnt.

havent done much highspeed stuff with new drive train

THATS GREAT!!!!!!

LMAO I wish our roads were that good....... if you've got the balls to do over 100MPH for over a short burst... you've either got a car that can handle like a DREAM or balls of steel.......

-The Stig-

handles like a dream?... at the time. HECK NO.

I had a collapsed leaf springs in the rear... one of which was tweaked so the right side of the car dipped down... and 2 people sitting on the right side... for some strange reason it still tracked straight! ... hahaha lucky us!

balls of steel? hahah i suppose i like to credit my driving ability.. but how much ability is there to letting go of the wheel? lol.

when it comes to rallying an american beast.. im pretty damn good at it!... but i admit that i've made mistakes I.E. toooo much gas while exiting a right turn and took the car tooo far side ways (was with peg-leg, before Posi was in) lucky for me i was able to recover before traffic caught up and took me out lol. scared the poo out of me at the time... just made me force myself to find a deserted place and teach myself the limits of my own car... being almost 33 years old its limits are pretty low as in the handling department. oh well!

yea, but you guys have interstates.... flat roads, and straight roads..... I'm in Eastern KY... 2 hours form the nearest interstate... and there are toooo many mountains and SHARP turns on the 4 lane to sustain a high speed..... I CONSTANTLY hit 100... and have kicked the speed limiter in on my Green 98 Ram QUITE a few times....... but you can HIT it and they you have to REALLY get on the brakes to make it through the turns...... I'll get some video of my trip to town tonight when I go cruisin.... there is tooo much road work to do a whole lot right now as far a speed, that and I've got 2 tickets pending court dates.

that and they are really startin to crack down on us racers around here.... even went as far as getting some Camaro SS's and they've supposedly got prochargers on them too.... we KNOW they've got some type of handling suspension becuase we saw one rip around some turns like they were nothing and out friend in his SS went and tryed to copy it and COULD NOT....... that and they sit just a tad lower than normal... if you don't know what to look for, you won't notice their cops.....

that and they give our area all the rookies in the state, they have the philosophy of "if you can catch them, you're good enough to catch anyone anywhere" partially cause we're just stupid at the speeds that some of us take these turns...........

Trust me, I know about the cops and the roads. But really the roads in ky are awsome! The sharp curves and dips are 10x better then any interstate. Anything can go fast in a straight line, boring. The curves are fun and a challenge.

Exactly, I've been out there, and would love to rally around, our freeways have pleanty of turns, and the roads are so rough its almost like a rally course sometimes :hehehe: Also you have a freeway full of people, many of which will take you on, racing with other cars, at speeds of 120 or so, on a toren up freeway with curves and such, its great. :bandit:

Then again, i'd rather race on those mountain roads, especally if theres less people on them.

its definetly a BLAST to drive around here.... but top speeds just aren't possible..... I drive 2 lanes that most people won't go more than 45 on at 90+ in a fullsized Dodge Ram...... if thats not insane I don't know what is really.....

if I had enough money I would LOVE to get WRC around here and have them rip up some of these strip mine roads (50+ miles around mountains, sometimes STEEP, sometimes too rough to go fast) and on some of thour 2 lanes... just to see what kind of speeds they can hit.....

172 mph in a Lamborghini Miura SV is my flat out record. Ohio has some great flat stretches in the rural areas for that sort of thing. But the best sensation of speed I ever got was in a friend's 1965 Chevy Corvair Monza coupe. At 115mph on a hilly gravel road, I was watching this guy saw at the wheel to try and keep us between the crop rows. It was intense, and pretty scary since the car had no seatbelts and a bare metal dash.:uhoh:

I know this is totally irrilavant but

1.6 liters of displacement doesn't make you slow. 5.0 liters doesn't make you fast. But what does 1.5 liters of pushrod straight four make you? An MGB.

I love that tag line, it says alot. *points to the 5.0 part* I'm glad someone besides a chevy or ricer said it, alot of fox body mustang boys and gals think they are deadly fast because they have a gt, a -stock- gt. I've proven maby wrong to their suprise at a boat of a luxery car beating them. I can just immagine what their expressions would be with a MGB beating them.

*chuckles*, Well TV (do you mind if I call you TV, if not, can I call you Frank), I'm sure they'd be surprised by it, but first they'd have to recognize it. You have no idea how many people under the age of 30 have never seen an MGB GT. Once at a drive-in, a person actually asked me "dude, where did you get those fat Daytons?"

Also, I have to change my tagline. After cleaning off some of the crud in the engine bay during a carb rebuild (former owner not using a lead additive, he must rot in hell) I found the engine ID plate. I have a 1.8L OHV four! Oh happy day. (but there are still 1.5L MGB's, I won't change it)

You're right TV, having a car that the average high school punk doesn't recognize and having it able to blow his doors off stock is great. But what I love even more about owning the B is how connected you feel when you drive it. There's no power steering or power brakes, no sychro on reverse, you have to match revs when shifting because the gearbox is full of straight cut gears, and because you're on bias-ply tires only about half an inch wider than Calista Flockhart's waist you have to be careful with the throttle. It's making me into a much better driver. Plus chicks love it. They think it's adorable, but in a good way. Not like they think Miatas or New Beetles are adorable.

I wasn't talking about that, I was talking about his poor grammar, a.k.a use of the word "went"....it should be gone
it would either be:
"what's the fastest you went?"
or
"what's the fastest you have gone?"
but not
"what's the fastest you have went?" because that is a double-past-tense, "have" and "went"

Kind of a story behind this one...

I was working night shift at Mervyns about 3 years ago during the christmas season, (the job sucked ass if you're wondering), I got out late, as in around 1:00 am. I hopped in my little '92 Nissan hardbody P/U. It's not fast, just gets me there really, but it's kinda fun to hot rod sometimes. Have any of you guys just gotten into the mood to stomp the gas or Hot rod the shit out of your car, just for fun? Well I was in one of those moods, so I did! I live in Bakersfield and was up near the top of Mt. Vernon which is on the outskirts of the city heading towards Tehachapi. A guy in a 70's Cadillac decided to have some fun with me, so I went with it (yes I knew he'd win). The stoplights were green all the way to the overpass at California (about 1 1/2-2 miles) and the street was almost deserted, don't ask why it was, because I don't know. Have you ever absolutely revved your engine to the max? I scared the shit outta myself because I was seriously expecting to see lifters flying through the hood of my truck it was revved so hard. 115-120... in a residential neighborhood...for about 2 miles straight. Probably the stupidest... yet goddamn funnest thing I've ever done. He kicked my ass and was probably hitting 130+ by the time we slowed for the stoplight. Talk about brake fade! I was still in the mood to stomp it and there hadn't been a single sign of cops, so when I got on the freeway to Tehachapi I kept it topped in 5th gear all the way up the hill, which is no mean feat if you've ever driven that grade before! The thing thats cool about the Bak. - Teh. route is that if you're going to Teh. you can take the Keene road off of Hwy. 58. Now THAT is a fun road at night! It's a curvy cliff road and at night you can see oncoming cars from the headlights, so the whole road is yours to play on with the warning it provides. It cost me almost 1/2 a tank of gas, (for a 4 cylinder thats a shitload) and my truck never has run quite the same again, but every once in a while, you have to have fun. BTW, a little over 20 minutes. Not bad for that drive!
