i know this is a pretty open-ended question but i am just trying to get opinions and suggestions on things to check.

i have a z31 that the heater nor AC works. i push the button and no air comes out. i already have taken apart the dash and checked to make sure the harnesses were still plugged in because the previous owner was going through a stereo system install. just seeing if anyone had any ideas before i dig up the old Hayne's and pop the hood...

I'd try running a jumper wire to the heater motor first to see if it works before going to all that work.

well...that was first on my list...i will probably start getting to work on it tomorrow. just now getting over the flu...it sucks.
