Unknown Problem with exhaust?

When I push the accelerater in my 92 escort lx with a lil over 90k miles it chugs for power whether I am in drive or in neutral. I think it might have something to do with the exhuast since when I bought it from the dealer they said they cleaned the exhaust to solve a check engine light problem. The engine light has not yet returned but I think the source of the problem is not being able to get rid of exhaust quick enough since a chugging rev noise comes from where my exhuast runs through about the catalytic converter when rev the engine. If anyone has had a similar problem or knows from the description what it might be please post on this thread. Thank you

It sounds like the converter is blocked. You may need to remove it temporarily to see if the power picks up. If it does replace it with a new one and the problem should be cured. I believe the place that "cleaned the exhaust" probably damaged it in the process.

yup. chugging is prolly related to the engine pushing real hard to get that exhaust out a clogged pipe. get a performance one and ur problems will be cured! 5 inch piping. lol im kidding. just do with a OEM.

I had the same problem. I replaed the cat and changed gas stations. Apperantly some gas stations have 'dirty gas'. If you fill at the same station all the time try switching to a different company.

Yeah, after I changed gas stations I added some injector cleaner and gas treatment and it felt like I added about 10 bph to the car. Its less slugish and my cat is just fine now.
