Fuel Gage Problem

Hello, Everyone.

I am a new person to the board and not very good mechanically speaking, so take it easy on me :smile:

Okay, here is my problem:

I have a 97 Pontiac Bonneville, everything seems to be fine on it with exception to my fuel gage. It will not register 99% of the time. Every once in a while the needle will show some indication that it works, but goes right back to full. I have to guessimate my fuel consumption which is nerve racking. I have ran out of fuel a few times and I am tired of it.

If any of you have encountered this, please let me know what I should do or look for. Thanks.

Nate, This fuel gage failure is a common problem on the GM platforms. The only real solution is to replace the fuel sender unit, as this is more than likely the problem. The resistor pack internal to the fuel level assembly in the tank fails, leaving you with the symptoms that you've described.

Hmmm, okay. Thanks for the information. I assume that this would be quite pricey to replace. I am correct?
