I have a 2000 2500 4x4 extended cab 6.0ltr engine. I have noticed a broken manifold bolt on the drivers side , far rear. There's not a lot of room back there. Can this be repaired with out removing the head. I do have an extended waranty but with my luck it won't be covered. Is this a common problem? If it is , would headers be a solution?

shitty buzzzz , not an easy job best to try and get it on a hoist drill and tap or tig weld a stud to the end and try to get it out also use a crap load of heat(torches a must) cherry red. now would be a good time to put header's on i guess but doesnt mean it'll solve your problem broken stud's just happen, note if you do go with header's you may break other stud's tring to remove them, best to let a exhaust shop do this job they're used to it, stay away from the dealler they'll ring you dry! good luck!

A friend of mine also has a 2000 ext cab 6.0l and has the same problem. He has 2 of the back bolts broke off and 1 of the front bolts broke off on the drivers side, and after checking he also has 1 front bolt broke off on the passengers side. He has about 77,000 miles on the truck. I talked to the Chevy garage and they said they have seen a few of the 6.0l come in with the same problem. In fact the day I was there he told me what the price of a new manifold was by looking at a repair order that was sitting on the counter. He said the manifolds warp and break off the bolts. He said it almost imposible to put the manifold back on once you take it off because they warp so bad. My buddy decided to go with headers and we are going to try and get the old manifolds off in a week or so. Where the bolts broke off on his is the head of the bolt. Hofefully we can grab on to the remaining part of the bolt and get it out. If it breaks off while trying to remove it we are going to get into some pita work.
Let me know how you make out
Jeff
