Okay i finished putting all my intake stuff in including the pipes and stuff, well when i tried to start it up it was dead, i think it was because i left the hood open for a while, and the security light kept flashing, well anyways, I got a jump on it and it started right up, i kept it running until the engine warmed up, I put on my high beams and the radio cut out for a quick second, then i turned them off nothing happend, but like 1 min later i tried the high beams again same problem,,, WTF is going on?

One other problem i have had since i bought the car, when im on the highway in 5th gear and i put it in neutral the car stalls out all the warning lights come on if i keep it in neutral for a certain period of time, so i have to down shift to 4th real quick, why does it do that? my subaru 5 speed never did that when i was in 5th and shifted to neutral,

also one more thing when i put the new filter in i couldnt fit the splash guard on very good any suggestions to fill the gap so no water gets into my filter?

altenator is going out. i would replace that as soon as possible. the exact same thing to me with all the warning lights. and i didn't replace the altenator right away and it died on me. so replace it as soon as possible.

yeah the alternator may be the culprit for your 5th gear to neutral dead problem. see the alternator relys on Revolution speed (RPMS) to create apmerage. the higher the RPMS the more amps your alternator is making. when in neutral at 700 RPMS your alternator isnt getting enough juice to keep your battery and accessories charged.

How much did it run you?

i think they can run from like $125-180. also you can get them rebuilt with more amps. i think the stock alternator puts out 80 amps at 3000 RPMS. well you can get them rebuilt to maybe 120 amps at 3000RPMS. to get one rebuilt is probably a little cheaper.

or you can go out and by a maxima altenator. i can't remember what years, but they are the same size and they fit in there directly and make more power. if i would of known that, i would of done it when i got a new altenator. one more thing, they are a b***h to replace.

K3s right to a point, its not the higher RPM the Higher amperage your alternator makes. There is a peak affectivenese of a alternator. After a certain RPM the alternator doesnt function. Most alternators are set up for peak effeciancy around 2500-3500RPM or Highway speeds.

But yes it sounds like the Alternator.

get used to it. this is a notorious nissan problem. never had a problem but i have heard of enough cases. the only problem with my z that was the cars fault and not stupiditys fault is the starter. *knock on wood*

the altenator is one of the problems the Z has. get one with a lifetime guarentee and keep that receipt.
