Engine cutting outjsturt 11-15-2004, 10:51 AM 2000 Grand Cherakee 4.0. Engine has recently started cutting out,, without warning signs, while running down the road. It happens at all speeds. It usually lasts for a few seconds and will restart then run fine until it happens again. It seems to be random - sometimes I can go 50+ miles between occurences. Last week the engine cut out while idleing and would not restart. I towed it to the nearest garage and of course, it has been running fine since then. They have not been able to reproduce the problem after 3 days of looking. Everyone seems to suspect the fuel system as there are no engine codes. Has anyone experiences a similar problem? dksob81 11-15-2004, 01:34 PM it sounds like it may be a bad CrankShaft Position Sensor (CPS). but I have seen a couple problems with the fuel pump - when it starts to go bad it will get hott and shutdown but this ussually only happens when it is below half a tank or what not, and ussually will not start up for a few minutes. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
