Hey all, new here and I have some questions on the 2by2 TT for you guys, though I've heard the USDM never had the pleasure of this model, which might make a few difficult to answer.
1. What are peoples thoughts on the 2by2 rear seat? Is it functional in any capacity when the driver (or passenger up front) is 6foot tall? Or will I only be transporting 2 double amputees in the back?
2. Whats the boot space like compared to the 2seater? It looks as though theres less space there from the pictures I've found but it's kinda hard to tell..
3. Without bias towards the TT, hows the handling of the 2 body styles compare? (Probably easiest to answer if you've driven both a 2seater NA and a 2by2 NA)
4. Hows the stock music system on the ears? Should I keep aside some extra to replace it?
5. Are suspension parts different for the two models?
6. Any other plus/minuses on the 2by2?
7. Anyone here that OWN's a 2by2 TT, in the US or otherwise?
Think thats all... Though I'll probably keep looking for one thats already in the country to test drive before I go ahead and import one from Japan, hehe..

well, you will have better luck making a 2+2 a TT then to try to import one. i am in the process of turning my 2+2 n/a into a TT. for the most part, if you want a TT, just buy a 2 seater TT. makes it alot easier and alot cheaper. i really havent found the point of the 2 extra seats besides a place to hold my school books. i have driven both and didnt notice a difference in space for the driver between the 2. the TT came with HICAS which is a 4-wheel steering system. also the TT offered different ride settings but not a big deal. those are the only suspension difference that i know of. the 2+2 is techincally better for road courses because of the longer wheel base.

as far as importing a 2+2 TT, dont waste your money. just buy a 2 seater TT here in the states and then spend the money you would save in mods. unless of course you are getting the 99' JDM model. which you still cant even get legalized because it came with the OBDII computer...

i think i answered all of your questions...

EDIT: the stock bose system, which came in most z32's, is just about worthless in today's day and age. usually, the bose system has just had its time and needs to be replaced.

Thanks, probably should have mentioned though that I'm in Australia, so importing one is my only option, hence the price difference between a 2seater TT and a 2by2 TT here is negligible..
So if you had to fit 4 people in the 2by2 you couldn't? Or is it ok over short distances? Can't say I haul around people often but I can see the need to fit more than 2 people in my car arising occasionally..

i see....sorry about that. go for it man. 2+2 is a little heavier do to the longer wheel base. i dont really know how the gas tank being moved affects the weight ratio but im sure that it doesnt affect it much if at all. some of that stuff i said might not apply to you then, since i have never been inside a 2+2 TT. like the adjustable ride settings. i dont know if the 2+2 TT offered that or not.

I have driven both of them the 2+2 and the 2 coupe NAs. I have a 2 coupe NA, dont need the back seat. I found that the back seat on the 2+2 is a joke, I had 3 people in the car and my poor 6'2" freind was stuck in the back, he was stretched across the seats so he could fit. Otherwise there is more cargo room in the 2+2 but it is a heavier car and it feels it after you drive the coupe. The suspension is not that bad, it is rough on the kidneys but thats like most performance cars. Its sound system I have had had the Bose both times so I would say its not too bad, But when compaired to my previous system its not to great either. Its enough to keep you from hearing too much outside noise but not loud enough to drown out a anoying kid listining to rap or some other crap.

All in all, It depends on your needs if you need a back seat get the family Z like K3, :P or you can get the single persons car and get the coupe...... But K3 is a pimp and he needs the back seat for all his hoes. lol

go for the 2 seater Z TT..its smaller and lighter than the 4 seater...thats why it go harder than 4 seater Z TT..i tell you man! 2 seater Z TT with manual transmission is a killer...sometime it scare me!!!

Well I'm sure the ~50kg's of extra weight of the 2by2 shouldn't harm my killer-ness too much, I'm mainly worried about the longer wheelbase, which I've narrowed down from various sources, including k3 here, that it should be an advantage on the track.

Also Hodo, I'm pretty sure carting around hoes disqualifies k3 as a family car driver :D

So I think the decisions half-made, 2by2 for foursomes and track racing.. Can't lose really :D

.. Now just need to track down and fool some poor bastard into thinking I'm gonna buy his used 2by2 import here so I can test drive one before importing my own.. hehehe

yeah, the longer wheel-base does help on the track. i haven't driven a 2+2, but just the common sense of a longer wheel base should tell people it should handle better. also, i have had a few times where i wish i had a backseat.

found this pic a while back wen i was doing research myself, i uploaded it for u :)

afaik the 2 back seats r definitely useful for smaller ppl
and dont forget the passenger seat can be moved forward, and if ur a short person urself then fitting someone short behind u wont b too hard

so u shouldnt have ne problem carting 3 ppl around (2 in the front, one behind the passenger)

i didnt even bother to check about lost boost space becoz mines gonna be filled with a sub + amp anyway :D i could prolly fit some bread rolls on either side but no suitcases thats for sure

i was exactly the same as u wen thinking about buying my car
i dont carry around lots of ppl all the time but how would u feel if u were in town with a group of ppl and 2 of them needed rides home (esp if its to the same home)
"sorry guys i can only take one of u home" haha

it doesnt matter to some of my mates (theyre selfish :p) but it matters to me
having an extra couple seats doesnt hurt, esp in a TT :)
ive only got one friend above 6" anyway and he always shotguns the front seat before anyone else can

well...yes...girls will crunch up in your backseat if its a z32. girls love the Z. see...im not tall but im not short. im about 5'9" and the only thing that will sit behind my seat is something without legs. but behind the passenger seat, it is perfect for a girl and one girl in the passenger seat. 2+2 comes in handy but overall i would like the 2 seater better, but thats just my opinion.

also, in a TT, i really doubt your gonna be seeing any drastic differences between the 2+2 or the 2 seater. either way its fast. but if you are pndering on turning it in to a track car, then i would probably recommend you to the 2+2.

pimpin' aint easy, unless you have a Z.

i have had people tell me that a 2-seater sucks because you can only have one girl in there at a time. HA! i have had two girls in my car twice now, they just sit on eachothers lap. even better.

well im one of those greedy type of guy hehe...only my mom or my gf can sit next to me hehehe j/k...anyway i dont really give a crap about track race..im ONLY into street drag race...i know that theres not much difference between 2 seater and 4 seater Z TT in straight line performance...but still its abit faster then 4 seater

Test drove an NA 2by2 today, wasn't any TT 2by2's for sale in my state that I could find advertised, and by all accounts even in NA form this car is somewhat on the insanely-mega-awesome side & definately an improvement over my current car (1986 celica.. damn.. sexy..) =)

Thanks for the advice people, and as much as I'd like to have 2 chicks sitting on each others laps in my 2nd and only other seat (in fact could probably just get 6 chicks and get them all to double up.. *drool*), I don't think many guys would like sitting on each other (at least none that i know), and they'd be pretty pissed if I always got out of driving for nights out coz i only got 2 seats hehe

Anyways, off to the bank tomoz to get my loan, and then off to an import broker.. With any luck I'll have my Z on the road by end of Jan (importing is slow, specially just now as there is a rumour going that the import laws will be changed soon and it will be harder/more expensive to get any decent imports into this damn big island (aka Australia), and everyone wants an import these days =P)

As for boot space, it ain't like I buy the food in the house so should be right, all I need it to fit is a sub and a pool cue case, and maybe a loaf of bread (never know when you'll need one of those :sly: )
School books can live in the back seat hehe

IN both Zs you have mad trunk/boot space. For a performance car anyway. I moved across the US with my Z32 coupe I fit everything I own, minus furnature and 4 boxes that I shiped. It was a tight fit but I fit a large suitcase, 1 large dufflebag, 1 27"TV, 1 28" by 24" by 18" box, 1 large hikeing Backpack, and about 50 smaller things, and I still had room in the car for me.

yeah, the hatch does have an amazing amount of room in it. i will be taking my first over 1 hour trip this thanksgiving with my z.

let me tell you the Z is a joy for long periods on the road. After all I spent 33 1/2 hours in my car at one time.

i am going to go to sleep probably. on 30 minute drives down the interstate puts me in a peacful state, the constant sound of my exhaust, being with something i love, it feels so great.
