difficulty removing power steering belt on 95 Rodeoelmm 11-14-2004, 04:37 PM Any suggestions? There is a tensioner that does not seem to give enough slack to remove the belt, and I have had difficulty finding any tool that I can fit in to slide the belt off the pulley. Is this common? or am I just not privy to the proper tool for this operation? A drawing or picture of how/where to pry on this belt would be helpful. anthonyn 11-14-2004, 06:04 PM Any suggestions? Then the PS pump will pivot back and forth. You may need to apply some muscle, but you should be able to swing the pump so that there is ample play in the belt to remove it from the pulley. If you need to, you can loosen the PS pump's pivot bolt which is located at the very bottom of the pump and is difficult to see looking down on it. So, locate it by feel. The head of the bolt is facing the engine, not the front of the car. elmm 11-14-2004, 06:48 PM the belt I need to remove is the one behind this belt. I was able to move the ps pump and remove that belt, but the next one in line is my trouble belt. Sorry - I misidentified the belt in my description. Cat Fuzz 11-14-2004, 10:12 PM Theres a tensioner pulley to the left of the ps pump, loosen the center bolt and then loosen the small bolt on the top to relive tension. 95.5 Rodeo 11-15-2004, 12:56 PM I just replaced all of the drive belts on my Rodeo last night, they were beyond bad. There were chunks of belt missing and cracks everywhere. I found the power steering belt to be the easiest to replace, loosen the lock bolt and the pump pivots over. Elmm, I just read your correction. Cat Fuzz is right about the tensioner used on the air conditioning belt. You'll get plenty of clearance if you follow his directions. The alternator belt was the most difficult, mainly because it did not want to pivot over easily after loosening the lock bolt and adjuster. I bought Gates green stripe belts, I've had good luck with Gates products. The job is done now and no more belt noise. Dale Cat Fuzz 11-15-2004, 02:53 PM Gates is top notch. :bigthumb: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
