speedometer will not workkoolaidkid 11-13-2004, 10:59 PM My 97 Neon 5 speed 2.0 single cam engine car has speedometer problems. The speedometer quit working, and the car will not idle if I stop at a stop sign, unless I rev it up first, then it will idle just fine. This all happened about the same time the check engine light came on. The speed sensor is ok, and the gear on the speed sensor is ok. What could be my problem? thanks Kool Aid DanF 11-14-2004, 12:50 AM Neons have allot of guage problems. Bad connectors as well as bad clusters themselves. The CEL could be anything. You can run the codes by keying the car into the "on" position. The one before the start while the car os off. The sequence goes. off-on-off-on-off-on the guages should light everytime the key in engaged. Wait a second after he third time leaving it on the CEL will stay lit for second then shut of. Then it shoudl start flashing.. I will have a flash in quick succesiond a longer pause that how you know the number is ended like flash-flash-flash----flash-flash----flash-flash----flash---- would be a 32 and a 21, the last number you shoudl pull is a 55 that means end of code string, post them back here and I'll let you know what it is. koolaidkid 11-19-2004, 11:54 PM Neons have allot of guage problems. Hello: thanks for the info: I found out what is wrong with my speedometer. The plastic gear inside the 5 speed transmission that turns the gear on the speed sensor is broken. Do you know how big a job that is? thanks Kool Aid DanF 11-22-2004, 10:47 AM Anything to do with the trans is bound to be a pain. If you have no experience with transmissions I wouldn't advise doing it yourself, if you know some about it, it shouldn't be incredibly difficult, I've never done one myself though. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
