95 safari pulling to leftliveinusa 11-13-2004, 09:58 PM When I apply the brakes at a good speed, it pulls to the left. I redid all the brakes, changed the front calipers, and still no change. I bled the brakes, changed the tires, and no change. Would appreciate ideas. thanks. sal tableman 11-13-2004, 10:36 PM I will assume since you did the front brakes, you check the rotors for any surface damage, and you clean all surfaces the calipers slide on. Things I would start checking are: all steering componets, like idle arms, tie rods and ball joints. The other strange thing that you might want to check is your power steering fluid, the reason your brakes power booster comes from your power steering pump, and if the fluid is low who knows what uneven things are happening. If these all check out ok, the only next I can think of is you have uneven pressure being applied some how, and you have to take it to a shop. 8490astro1 01-23-2005, 09:07 PM I Hope this helps. The 1990 I have had a similar problem. It was misdiagnosed by several people! First, they said it was a bad caliper. Then, they blamed it on the Anti-Lock Brake system. Then, it was the caliper again. 3 Rotors later, worn idler arms, $500 wasted. I got an answer from a local shop who had seen this problem many times before. Very simply put, all of those calipers were good, my ABS may not be working right, but that has nothing to do with it....replace your front brake hoses! Not the metal brake lines, just the hoses. Does your problem occurr more in warm weather than cold? The rubber/nylon hoses in the front begin to break down. The rubber delaminates and begins to block the passage at either end of the hose, where it is crimped onto the connector. In many cases, it will act like a check valve - When you brake, fluid will flow into the caliper, but upon release, the rubber will plug the hole and prevent the the fluid from returning. The brake will get stuck, or drag lightly, or in my case, just stay in position until the pad wears out. Prior to it getting really bad, you will have to "steer and brake" when stopping. Does it feel like one side kicks in before the other? In other words, if you brake softly, does it start to pull one way, then the other? It's the brake hoses, seriously!!!!! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
