89 raider not starting, no sparkcivickiller 11-12-2004, 02:37 PM ok i got a 89 raider that wont start, it cranks but doesnt start. how do i tell if the fuel pump is coming on ? is there any reason at all why if the fule pump stopped work would i not get spark ? i also pulled the ignition coil wire off and grounded it and didnt get spark. but after replacing it with a brand new coil, i still dont get spark. can anyone tell me what kind of readings am i suppose to get on the wires that plugs into the coil or have any idea on what i can do to fix this fredjacksonsan 11-15-2004, 12:47 PM You may be able to hear the fuel pump cut on when you turn the ignition switch on before engaging the starter. Did the vehicle run before? If so, what happened just before it quit running? I'd check fuses, there may be a blown fuse for the ignition control. LTJGWorth 11-15-2004, 05:01 PM Either ignition control or engine control. I'm not familiar with the electric components on your vehicle. My 1997 ram 1500 would crank over but wouldn't start when my engine control fuse blew... twice. Ended up changing the ignition coil and haven't had the problem since. civickiller 11-17-2004, 01:26 AM i put the key on and didnt hear the fuel pump prime, but im also not getting spark. the car ran fine, didnt start one day. started a few days after and just died at a traffic light and hasnt started since. i check inside fuses as well as the engine bay fuses. yeah i thought it was the ignition coil but i replaced that and it still isnt starting. i have power going to the ignition coil, i thought it maybe the pick up coil but turns out my dist has something called a photosensing sensor. does anyone know what would happen if that went bad, would that cause it not to spark ? earle1 12-17-2005, 01:45 PM having the same problem as civickiller. did you figure out how to solve the problem? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
