I have a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it's been giving me problems lately. When I'm driving, the engine will die, but everything else works (such as the radio and lights). The RPM meter shows 0 and I'll have to restart the engine. It usually restarts right away, but there have been a few instances where it will take a couple tries. This is beginning to happen more frequently, and will sometimes happen when I'm driving down the freeway at 70-80 mph, a little scary, especially on the LA freeways. Last night, I was applying my brakes to make a turn and the rpm's went crazy, jumping between 1 and 3 rpms until finally going to 0.

There are other times when I'm stopped at a stop light/sign and it'll do the same thing. The only fortunate thing is that I'm not moving.

I checked the fault codes and got 11, 12, and 21.

The dying of the engine when I'm driving started occuring around September while the dying when its idle occured a few times before Sept. I drove the jeep a lot over the summer, but since classes started for me in late August, I don't drive the car that much at all (maybe three times every couple weeks).

Should I take it to Aamco and get the transmission checked out? Or is this fixable by me? Keep in mind that I'm not very engine-oriented and I don't have all the money in the world to fix it up...kinda hoping this will be a minor fix-up. Any help would be very much appreciated!!!

Code 11- refers to the Camshaft position Sensor.
Code 12 - Just says that the computer has lost power within the last 50 ignitions cycles (battery was dsconnected).

Code 21- problem with )2 sensor circuit, O2 sensor signal not fluctuating. check to c if the O2 sensor is plugged in and make sure all the wires are in good condition. soemtimes the touch the exhaust and it will burn the wires.

as for the Stalling it sounds like a CrankShaft Position sensor problem, but sense you are getting a camshaft sensor code i would start by replacing it and looking at the wiring for the O2 sensor.

email me i fu need any additional info

Try taking care of the engine codes and go from there. Sounds like you have two issues cam sensor and oxygen sensor. Dosent seem Transmission Related. Oxygen sensors are on the high price side and are hard to do diagnostics without a scan tool or a Multimeter. Since there are codes there is a good chance the sensors or wirring are bad. Look for any breaks in the wirring before replacing parts.
