Hi does any one have an exact procedure for removing the bed on a 97 Sierra, for purposes of changing fuel pump?
Anything hidden I should know?
How many bolts, and there location?
Wiring connector locations?
The more details the better!
Also any advise on where to get a good but economical pump for this vehicle, would be appreciated!!!
Thanks much, Nick

Make sure you get all the bed bolts, wiring to the rear lights, fuel inlet hose and ground strap off. I built a tool that it adjustable and fits under the bed lip in the middle and then picked it up with my lift. It worked very good. I used to own a NAPA store and used a couple of their pumps.......go to GM and buy one. The NAPA pumps are noisy and didn't last near as long.

Easier just to drop the tank, change the pump, and put the tank back in...

just my :2cents:

I've seen GM in-tank fuel pumps fail after replacement within a week....and a total of three in a month on one truck. I suggest putting in a small hatch above the pump through the bed. i suspect you'll thank me later because those pumps are really cheesy units that look like junk. a decent-looking job can be done using a piece out of another bed, scrounged from the scrap-yard. cut that piece an inch or so bigger than the hole you cut, add a small hinge and voila'
