Fuel Injection

I know that on a little 50cc engine you're restricted to how many RPMs you can hit because of the timing, and a fix is to get a new flywheel key to adjust the timing. I am in the process of programming a microprocessor to computer control an engine, much like fuel injection. Would this be a huge benefit for a gocart racer? Would it even be legal? I could customize the chip to any engine, but I am looking more towards putting it on a 4 cycle. Probably Blockzilla and Animal blocks. I was always a believer in Briggs and Stratton.
