I've heard decent things about panasonic's headunits, but I have no experience

about the differences, the one in the first link has a better EQ, more powerful preouts, and it can play MP3s.

what else do you suggest, i'v notice that many people have the alpine that you have, how do you like it?

I love it, very solid, very powerful (speaking of functionality, I've never used the internal amp), sounds amazing

The only thing I would switch it out for would be an Eclipse 8443, but I think that unit looks like crap appearance-wise, so that's not going to happen any time soon.

The Pioneer 860(0) would be a pretty good choice too

alirght thanks for the imput, i'v decided to buy the Alpine when my next paycheck rolls around, now for the front speakers, what do you think of this infinity set? http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Infinity-6-1-2--Component-Speakers--6000CS-/sem/rpsm/oid/67912/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do i work at circuit city so i can get a discount on them.
or are these better? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32819&item=5730892410&rd=1

I ran a full infinity front stage last year and honestly I was pretty disappointed, they were severely lacking in midbass and the tweets made me want to stab myself in the ears with a pickaxe. They were detailed and they didn't have any problem with power, their sound was just.....disagreeable. From what I've seen, most people seem to think that way. The references are better than the kappas in that regard, but they're really for people on a very strict budget.

For the sub-$200 range I would look into CDT instead

i'm willing to spend up to 350ish for the front componets what do you suggest? btw i listen to mostly indy\prog\alt\ Rock, and i like clear, crisp sound and tight accurate bass as oppose to just loud thump.

Well any speaker set in that price range is going to require a nice 2ch amp to power them, and it would be a shame not to put something that nice into undeadened doors, so make sure your available price range includes both of those 2 items (adds up quickly doesn't it? ;))

Really though, anything in the $200+ area is going to NEED an amp to reach anywhere near its potential, which is another $200-$250, and a liberal amount of deadening for the front doors would be somewhere around $50. You can do it in stages if you want, just don't expect really nice sound until you get all 3 parts.

But to answer your question, for $350 I'd suggest the Adire Kodas (here I go again), the Image Dynamics Chameleons, or CDT EF-61s

i understand i will need an amp, and thats no problem, like i said 350 for just front componets, i will do it in stages like you suggested...every paycheck lol.
are these the CDTs your talkin about? are CDT's high quality? someone once told me that CDTs were just decent speakers to hold you over till you could afford high end ones. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32819&item=5731504155&rd=1&ssPageName=WD1V
btw i appreciate all your imput :)

I would take the Chameleons before the EFs

but CDTs are very nice speakers, the classics are entry-level, but they're only $150 or so, and they're better than most anything else you'll find in that price range. The EFs are one of their upper models and are pretty good, I'm sure Haibane will post here when he finds this thead, he knows more about CDT than I do.
