Places to buy tires?slantyshanty 11-10-2004, 12:17 PM I was at sears last weekend, looking at some new B.F. Goodrich A/T KO's and for (4)of them plus mounting and balancing and whatever else??? They wanted almost $900. WOW! I have purchased tires from them before and they stood by their balance them whenever you need them policy. I also had to get my alighnment done a few times from them and the first time I had to pay and the rest were free... so I guess they are good peoples. But If there is a secret place that I don't know about that sells tires and maybe even rims, please let me in on the secret! pnwbeers 11-11-2004, 11:14 AM What size are you buying? $900 is really high. Anyway, check out Discount Tire - they have pretty good prices and great service. You could also give costco a shot, but some people have had trouble getting them to install non-stock sizes. slantyshanty 11-11-2004, 11:23 AM Well I was going to lift my X and put some AR15's rims and try to match the stock size, but it seems those tires are about the same price as the 16's to go on my stock rims. That and, I guess lifting would void a lot of my warranty, unless I got my dealer to put the lift on for me (yyyeah fat chance) Can't imagine what that would cost? So I guess just 265/70r/16's to go on the stock rims for now. Will give those two places a try though. Thanks for the info! corbinwaterski 11-11-2004, 01:22 PM pnwbeers 11-11-2004, 03:46 PM So I guess just 265/70r/16's to go on the stock rims for now. You can fit 265/75R16s on stock rims on an unlifted Xterra with very minimal (and unnoticeable) plastic trimming - and some 02-04s have been able to fit that size with no trimming at all. I personally think going up to that size is a great upgrade. slantyshanty 11-11-2004, 03:49 PM does that not effect the speedo much? maybe a mile or two ph? Guess I could live with that. Oh yeah duh, I got an '04. pnwbeers 11-11-2004, 03:51 PM They are like 8.8% bigger than the '01 stock size, but I think the speedo was being overly cautious with the stock size. I think '04s came with bigger tires stock so the difference would be smaller. An indicated 55 may be more like 60 or so - no big deal. It does add 1 extra calculation to figuring gas mileage - again, no biggie. XBBO 11-12-2004, 12:23 AM I've got 265/70R16s on stock rims on my 2001 X and the spedo has actually jumped about that much. At 65 on the spedo I'm actually traveling around 70. Oh yeah, also gas mileage hasn't changed much at all actually. OffroadX 11-12-2004, 10:35 AM Stock 04 16" size is 265/70-16, 30.6" diameter give or take. Going to a 265/75-16 yields a 31.65" diameter, about a 3.27% change. Considering that the Xterra has typically has an optimistic speedometer and many that make the next-step-up upgrade in tire size often see the speedo fall pretty much in sync with an actual/GPS-indicated speed, I would expect going to a 265/75-16 would probably to the same. akordboy 11-12-2004, 12:30 PM I have 265/75/16 and when I'm going 65 (on the speedo), according to my GPS, I'm doing 73. The cheapest place I've found the BFG AT KO was at NTB. The were $139 a piece. But they wouldn't mount and balance them for me because they said they were too big. :screwy: So I had my girlfriends brother do it for me free of charge. :2cents: Jeff vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
