2003 S-10 Service Engine Soon, OVER & OVER!?!?

Anyone else had this problem???

So, my service engine soon light came on & I took it in & had it scanned, the code was "Cylinder 4 Misfire"

So, I was told I most likely needed new plugs & wires (on my 2003 with only 40,000 miles on it) So I had them replaced.
The light stayed off for about a week then was back on. Then off, then on. I took it back to him, he replaced on of the plugs & put fuel injection cleaner because he said that he read a bulletin from GM about the fuel injection causing that code.

Since then, my light has been off & on & off & ON.

I can't afford to spend $200 to have the dealership read the code.

Anyone else been through this or have any ideas what it REALLY might be??????????????????????

Thanks.

I might be wrong, but I imagine that you have a 2003 pickup so you can get it fixxed on waranty, and I would think that your problem is waranty related.

If not your state probably has some sort of lemon law requiring them to either fix or replace your car.

Good luck

It sucks because my factory warranty was up at 36,000. Also, I bought my truck in a different state that I live in! What's a girl to do??? haha :(

you could also have a intermittent coil problem. since they replaced the spark plugs and wires there could only be a few more possibilities. 1 being the coil/coil pack is bad, 2 being the cylinder has failed and has low or no compression. 3 being the fuel injector has failed. there is also a possibility of wiring damage. being that it is a 2003, the most likely problem would be the coil or the injector. this is assuming you have the 4 cylinder engine.

Yes, it's 4 cylinder, thanks...I'll try to have those couple things checked!

also, sometimes resetting the computer will "fix" the problem, just unplug the positive (+) for a min or two and then re attach it, if it comes back youve got a real problem and not a miss read

Autozone reads the codes for free.

Sounds like a bad 4th cylinder fuel injector to me.

Well first of all dont dissconnect the positive and connect it again...only negative and theres no second of all lol...just be safe with batteries dont want a voltage spike to the pcm and it just makes it so it wont spark (rare but it does happen could blow up a sulfating battery)

Yeah, I know I have a real problem, because it's been reset a couple of times & it keeps coming on. (off & ON!!)

Get the codes read again at autozone for free and come back here with the exact code they give you.

We need the number.

I know that the code is "Cylinder 4 Misfire", because I've had it read a few time already. I think the number that came up was 304. Not REAL sure on that one though!

sound like a time thing but you replace the coils

Here's what I would do:
1) pop the hood and remove the spark plugs (if you ask at autozone, they'll usuall do this service for free)
2) if there is no way of a visual diagnostic (indicated a bad plug) then you'll want to put the plug back into the wire set and let the ground tip touch the engine. Have some try to start the engine, you'll see a decent sized spark (please try to stand back). If not, then there's either a bad coil or a bad wire.

Ah, ok, so you have one cylinder that is misfiring constantly.

That mean that the injector going to that cylinder needs replacing.

This is the injector you need:

Replace it and you will be good to go.

Wish I woulda had this link before I had to break down & take it to the dealership because it was running so shitty. :( They said they had to do a bunch of other shit to it too, NATURALLY - total bill : $810

It was the #4 injector, but they also wanted to replace the filter & do some kinda flushes, oh and it took them "3 hours to diagnose it".

Sorry to hear you dropped the cash like that.

Too bad you didn't tell me the code earlier. :(

Indeed. *adds you to buddy list* I will ask you first next time. I'm sure there will be a next time. Since my truck is a SOUR YELLOW FRUIT. (It's really dark blue, but you get the picture.

Hehe, yea, but they are enjoyable to drive when they are working well. All vehicles have their problems.
