Buying 97 M3 Help

I'm looking to buy a 97 or so M3 and I found one for an excellent price with a couple small upgrades (short shifer, ecu upgrade), the only thing that worries me is that it has 182,000 miles on it. Is that a lot of miles for a BMW or do they usually last much longer? Any help is appreciated.

Also, I've heard BMW's are expensive to maintain. Is this true?
