water in transmissionhoowahfun 11-08-2004, 06:13 PM hey, yesterday i went offroading in my jeep and it got stuck in some water with the entire transmission submerged. once i was pulled out the check transmission light came on and it was making a whirring noise. while trying to make it back to civilization (bout 2 miles) it started slipping and didnt want to move when accelerating from a stop. i checked the tranny fluid and it looked like pepto bismol so i changed it as well as the filter and put on a new gasket. this helped a lot and the noise is gone and it doesnt slip at all anymore but now it wont shift into higher gears. it redlines at about 65 mph and wont shift higher. i've got a 2000 grand cherokee larado 4x4. the tranny is automatic w/ overdrive. i can shift through all the gears fine on the center console but like i said it wont shift into higher gears. i want to say that it stays in 2nd or 3rd gear but i'm not sure. i sprayed my jeep off today with a pressure washer and noticed that my check transmission light went off, but the problem still persists. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks. dksob81 11-09-2004, 12:16 AM have the transmission flushed, there is prolly still water in the lines causing your problem. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
