Allright, im pretty new tothe audio part of my car and now that i have pretty much done what i wanted cosmetic to my car, i want to put a system in it, i have everything ready to be set up, but i want to build my own sub box. now i have a 15" sub and i need to know what kind of specs i should build the box to. i have found alot on he net about 10's and 12's but cant find anything on 15's... shoul i go ported or sealed? how much air space would i need? should i do a fiberglass mold (dont want to because too time consuming) any help would be greatly appreciated.

well first, what sub is it?
second, what car do you have?
third, how much power do you have?

exactly, i cant either, i had a uncle that worked for them like 2 years ago, then they went out of business and all the employees got merchandise for like dirt cheap... he gave me 10 10's 5 12's, and 2 15's, he got the whole lot for 15 bucks, i went and sold all of them and kept 1 15 for me, but cant find anything anywhere now. sub is 2 years old but brand new

hm, well it's really hard without the specs of the sub to go by, makes it impossible to model up how it would perform. I'd say a good guess would be 3cf tuned to ~33hz for ported, or maybe 2cf sealed

Well here's their website...

http://www.legacycaraudio.com/index.asp

The 'woofers' sections seems to be down... Chances are they wont even list T/S parameters on the site.

i think id go with around 2 cu ft sealed.. just because you need to be more exact when it comes to ported boxes and i think guessing for a port size and box size may do more damage than good. 2 cubes sealed is a good average size to go with, especially if the 1400 watts is the max rating, which im assuming it is. Plus, sealed boxes seem to be a littl emore forgiving in general, which may be very helpful in your case where you dont know any TS parameters

I agree, sealed is definitely more forgiving, and it's probably the best way to go when you don't know any of the specs of the sub.

Just wondering? Why this sub? If you can afford to make your own box?

hehe, we don't know the T/S parameters for the sub, 2cf was just a completely wild guess, do you think it really makes a difference whether that 2cf is before or after sub displacement? ;)

make it out of 3/4" mdf

what is/how would i make a sealed box... and the reason this sub, is cause it was free and i have all materials i cant spare any extra money caus im having a spoiler hood scoop and full paint job...

You would make a box, with an internal volume equal to around 2cf, and a big hole in the front face to stick the sub in. Make sure all the joints are sealed well
