I took my Mustang Mach III concept coupe and did a bit of "remodeling". Finished about ten years ago. Here's the story:
This is my take on the '94 Mustang redesign. I started w/the Mach III concept which I hated the heart-shaped windscreen, and grafted a slightly-modified Dodge Stealth roof to it, and it faired in remarkably well w/the Mach III contours. I even retained the Stealth spoiler, which matches the rear skirt on the Mach III. Interior parts were borrowed from a 1994 Mustang, and lines were scribed into the body/bumpers to make this idea as feasible as possible. I'm really happy with how it turned out, and I'd say the design has aged quite well, considering I did this model some ten years ago.

Here's what it looks like today, after repainting it with a mixture of Alclad paints to simulate Mineral Gray, lowering the suspension, and adding some 19's. I'm much happier  . Aside from the repaint and lowering/rims, the rest was left untouched, so the restoration/remodeling took about 8-10 hours. The 1:1 car makers repaint their show cars, so I figured "why not!".

Whoa.....

Duplicolor makes Ford Mineral Gray touch up paint :p Have you thought about an underchin spoiler? That car has its nose up in the air, like it knows how nice it is or something!

The new look is better. Not that the old one was bad. The mix of alclads for the body came out great. Very nice finish.

The new wheels, stance, and color really brought the car to life. Nice "re-modeling" job.

Thanks for the comments! It was a fun project.

As for this car looking like a Tiburon or RSX (that one I really don't get), remember that the Mach III was a show car from 1992 or 1993. I don't think Ford copies Acura or Hyundai...it's quite the other way around. :icon16:

In actuality, the Mach III and the original Hyundai HCD came out around the same time, and influenced later production cars, the Mustang of '94 and the Hyundai Tiburon of '97.

If someone builds a Ferrari 456 and then someone else says "it looks like a Tiburon", I'm going to hurl. :evillol:

Mach III-1992. Tiburon-1997.

I totally understand where you're coming from, but it's kind of amusing to someone who was around when the Mach III was introduced to hear someone say that an original looks like it's copy, and not vice-versa.

Go to a car show, look at someone's Lotus Elan, and tell them that it's cute and it looks like a Miata. Then run like hell if you know what's best for you. :icon16:

No waaaay!! That's nucking futs, how much better it looks in that color. :screwy:

ZoomZoom, has that original been published in any modeling magazines in the past? I swear seeing that car before, many years ago. I'm not if that was your model but I am damn sure I've seen it somewhere.

Very nice update.

Thanks, yes it's been in magazines before. It won first place in the "If I had designed it" category in Salt Lake in '97, and it was already fairly "old" back then, can't remember what magazines it's been in, but you probably have seen it before. More recently a guy in Puerto Rico did one w/a later model Mustang roof, in silver w/19's...one reason I wanted to update mine.

Yep, it was definitely your model. I believe it was in a Scale Auto Model Show Annual or something. It was a thicker book covering the shows for the year and the winning entries. I may still own the magazine, have to go look.
