progress: 1969 mach 1 with a little something extra.white97ex 11-06-2004, 10:50 AM again, no its not a skyline, but hopefully with all the muscle cars showing up i'll get some interest with this one. The chevelle hit the backburner when i started having problems with the paint. and with the encroaching deadline for the AFMOTY i didn't feel that the quality of the workmanship on that car was worth entering. I learned a lot from that kit which i hope to work into this one. here are some teaser pics of the body. it is all that i have at the moment. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069stang.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069mach1-2.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069mach1.JPG i just pulled the masking tape off of the paint. i'll get some pictures up sometime this weekend. this build will follow closely to the chevelle, in the g-machine aspect, only this will mix quite a bit of new with the old. stay tuned for updates, this should prove to be a pretty sick build. and hopefully AFMOTY quality 99civichic 11-06-2004, 04:02 PM And you guys say I have clean hands! Looks good so far...too bad the Chevelle is giving you fits, but Fords are better anyways! JK PS how did you cut out the fog lights? white97ex 11-07-2004, 02:11 AM well...they are in the same location as fog lights but that isn't what they are going to be.........i pretty much just eyeballed them, marked them with a sharpie drilled them with a small bit in the pin vise, then i got out a larger bit. i went from small to large so as to reduce bit walk...... this is kinda sad. 70 some odd views and only one reply. i guess us texan's have to stick together...my next thread is gonna be titled just like this. Progress: Tamiya Nissan Skyline R34 then inside the thread it'll be something totally different. atleast people will reply. lol i will try and post up a pic of the body tomorrow. it looks pretty sharp 99civichic 11-07-2004, 03:05 AM I hear ya on that, muscle cars just don't get the respect they deserve. These cars were faster 30 years ago than most cars are today. Supras and Skylines are really cool, but they don't tug my heartstrings like a '69 Mustang. Anyways, I should probably invest in a pin vice sometime. They seem handy, but I'm way overbudget on model stuff right now. I even put the Cobra on hold for a while because I can't buy the paint. I do all my small holemaking with a heated needle (like when I'm wiring an engine or running fuel lines) Holes that size, I use my dremmel. Purpura Delujo 11-07-2004, 03:26 AM I hear ya on that, muscle cars just don't get the respect they deserve. These cars were faster 30 years ago than most cars are today. Damn, I wish I knew more chicks like you :eek7: Looks good from what I can see man, is that the kit from the Monogram 3 in 1 Mustang collection? _WIDE_LOAD_ 11-07-2004, 03:34 AM man, i dunno why people arent replying looks good to me. so me want to see more :p laters, WIDE JTRACING 11-07-2004, 08:12 AM Looks Great!!! white97ex 11-07-2004, 10:40 AM its actually the AMT kit. i'm about to go take a some pictures of the paint. expect to see them within the hour. civicchic. i picked the pin vise up at wal mart. i think it was about 4 dollars. it only came with 3 bits tho. its enough to start holes with, then i just turned the large bit by hand. i wouldn't trust myself to drill on body work with a dremel. lol. as for the cobra comment, expect to see some cobra goodies showing up in this thread real soon :evil grin: white97ex 11-07-2004, 11:33 AM well here are the photo updates, enjoy. 1. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069grille.JPG 2. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069paint1.JPG 3. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069paint2.JPG 4. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069rearend.JPG 5. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069wheels.JPG white97ex 11-07-2004, 11:39 AM sorry for posting two times in a row, but it is easier for me to explain the photo detail this way. first off. the paint was sprayed as follows. after all of the body work, which includes the scratchbuilt cowl, front airdam, and rear roll pan. the body was sprayed with red duplicolor filler primer, followd by dark gray duplicolor primer. the base color is duplicolor gunmetal, and the red is duplicolor cherry red pearl. 1. the grille is made from mesh used in clay modeling. 2. and 3. just show 3/4 views, notice i left the door handles. and you can't tell but i have painted the window rubbers. is used black, i didn't go with the 60's traditional chrome window trim, this is model is more about mixing oldschool with new school. 4. this shows a good view of the rear roll pan. notice the mustang was brought out with detail masters chrome silver enamel. tail lights are not the stock red plastic pieces, this again to try and mix the new into the old. i wanted to simulate the look of the tail lights on the new 05 mustang. i took some clear plastic, painted it with transparent red and backed it with aluminum foil and voila. 5. Pegasus T"s, hand painted the spokes with the same duplicolor as on the body. wanted to simulate the newer style GT wheels. hope everyone likes the progress so far. comments questions and feedback are welcome and appreciated. 99civichic 11-07-2004, 03:14 PM You said you used Duplicolor gunmetal on the car, was this a spray can? If so, how on earth did you paint the wheels by hand with it? I've tried using a brush with spraycan paint and I always eng up losing a brush and not getting the results I want! lancer07 11-07-2004, 05:22 PM lookin good :smokin: Purpura Delujo 11-07-2004, 08:51 PM Damn those wheels will look awesome when fitted! So i'm guessing it's a cross between the new Bullitt Mustang and Eleanor? white97ex 11-07-2004, 09:37 PM civichic.....well. it didn't start out really great doing the spokes. all i got was the clear in the paint. i did it in about three coats. first was the clear junk. didn't have enough paint on the brush. then the second coat, it left a transparent layer of the gunmetal. the second coat darkened it. and well, by the time i got to the third coat, the paint had started to thicken just a bit and transferred onto the wheels much better. try letting the paint stand for 5 or 10 minutes. that should aid paint transfer. as for the brush....let me check......its been sitting in thinner for about 10 hours and it is good to go. lol....hope that helps Purpura. well, i didn't mean for it to look so much like eleanor. it just kind of happened that way. as for a new bullitt. not shooting for a bullitt half breed, it is going to feed more off of the cobra than any other mustang variant. you'll understand why later. time to get back to the chassis to try and modify it to accept the new drivetrain. 99civichic 11-07-2004, 10:39 PM We've already heard that this was getting a 4.6....or atleast i kinda infered that from another thread. Kat has had this plan for a while but working on the turbo stang has kept her hands busy most of this last year. Oh this is Will69camaro. William white97ex 11-07-2004, 10:52 PM ah heck. i'll just lay it out for you guys....im kind of anxious to see what everyone thinks. its getting the cobra motor and trans, as well as the IRS. i had to fuse the front part of the cobra chassis, and the rear part of the 69 chassis together to allow everything to fit properly. im waiting on the glue to dry well enought to be able to handle the chassis. i plan on twin turboing the 4.6 as well. if everything fits, if not, i might just go with a single blower. only time will tell at this point tho. i want to modernize the interior the same as the drive train. i found some nice newer style bucket seats in one of my parts boxes the other day. i've thought about modifying the cobra dash to fit in the interior tub, but i think im going to stick with the old school one. be on the look out for my first attempt at a 5 pt harness, and the use of some detail master hood pins. as for the fog light holes in the front fascia. if all goes as planned, those will be the inlets for the turbos!! civichic/will. do you guys have any good reference photos for the 4.6 DOHC? im looking for some good pics for wiring. 99civichic 11-08-2004, 12:36 AM http://www.joelynch.org/cobrasite/Joe/AUT_3654%20(2).JPG If you were going '03-'04 Blown Cobra: http://www.svt.ford.com/images/gallery/03Cobra_engine2.jpg And my favorite place for car research: eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6236&item=4501871365&rd=1) If I only had $14k.... Bloodhound 11-08-2004, 04:36 AM Don't worry bout people not posting man, you enter this beast you'll knock em all dead. Good luck to ya, it's a fuckin beast. Jurva 11-08-2004, 09:39 AM Looking good! I have finish my projects so I can start new one. Will be some pro touring too. I love them. SLAYTANIC_1134 11-08-2004, 01:56 PM Looks good but I want to see that chevelle! This looks like a very interesting project hope to see it entered in the AFMOTY contest!! white97ex 11-08-2004, 02:08 PM as soon as i get this done, i'll buy some more paint and respray and finish the chevelle, i wouldn't look for it anytime before the end of hte month...unless this thing starts giving me fits or i have to wait for parts. im in the middle of making the turbo headers right now. expect to see some pictures later on tonight 76 maverick 11-08-2004, 09:14 PM Loving it keep up the great work ! white97ex 11-08-2004, 11:48 PM well here are some engine shots for you guys. it is minus intake, and all the accessories. just block, heads, valve covers, belt assembly, and of course the turbo headers. the turbos will be mounted in front of the engine this time. it was the only way to route the header to fit them without redoing the whole front of the frame. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069engine1.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069engine2.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069engine3.JPG sorry about the pictures, they are pretty fuzzy, but you can see teh detail. in the finished thread i'll have to break out the 35 mm and scan the pictures in 99civichic 11-08-2004, 11:51 PM This is will69camaro...Not sure how accurate you want to be but the block should be painted aluminum, the 4.6 isn't and probably shouldnt' be painted... Just a thought, looks really good other wise :) William white97ex 11-08-2004, 11:55 PM you lost me with that post will...... "he 4.6 isn't and probably shouldnt' be painted..." that part there specifically. lol. i painted it the same color as the red on the body, as is often done on older cars, when the owner tears them down and rebuilds them. just something to spruce up the engine bay Jaymes 11-09-2004, 12:06 AM great work so far. I'm loving the color scheme of the body :sunglasse 99civichic 11-09-2004, 12:40 AM I think what he's trying to say is that the 4.6 is all aluminum and usually aluminum engine components aren't painted. It affects heat transfer, among other things. Also, since aluminum expands it probably cracks the paint when it gets hot. It does look good, but I would have left the block silver in color and maybe had body-colored accents, i.e. any lettering etc. white97ex 11-09-2004, 09:29 AM hmm....i didn't even give that aspect any consideration...too late now. lol. since i've got it pretty much all assembled, i'll keep it like it is...thanx for pointing that out tho. GT-Alex 11-09-2004, 09:55 AM Nice paint, and nice engine. Too bad the cobra has been canibalized for this one. 99civichic 11-09-2004, 10:53 AM It hasn't been cannibalized, it's just been made into a curbside, that's all :p Jurva 11-09-2004, 11:03 AM You seem to love twinturbo V8's. I like them too. white97ex 11-09-2004, 02:30 PM lol. im a big fan of snail power...and yes, sad to say it but the cobra was cannibalisec, it donated teh front half of its frame, the engine, rearend, and radiator thus far, and i beleive the mirrors as well spidereddie 11-09-2004, 07:30 PM that car is sooo marvelous....I've also been hit with the muscle car bug lately (last 3 projects, current 2 and at least 1 more in the near future). this is definitely inspiring me to keep at it. white97ex 11-10-2004, 12:18 AM i've got a whole list of muscle cars that i want to do in the next year........one at a time tho....lol Jetts 11-10-2004, 12:20 AM i love that bodystyle, good job! white97ex 11-11-2004, 10:39 PM well i've been playing around with this thing. and there seems to be a shortage of room in the front end. i've been playing around with it for a while. im finishing up the construction on the turbo's right now so i can start mapping everything out. look forward to some unique mounting of the radiator and intercoolers. i'll get some pics up later on tonight white97ex 11-12-2004, 01:46 PM well i've gotten a little bit done. the engine is in the chassis, and the front wheels are on. i've got the IRS all put together in its cage. have to wait until im done with the turbo's so i can run the exhaust before it can go in. the turbo's are giving me a hard time, there is hardly any room up front to mount them http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069engineinchassis.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069IRS.JPG 76 maverick 11-13-2004, 12:23 AM Hey now thats lookin good :sunglasse . ol' dude 11-13-2004, 05:49 AM Looking good, can't wait to see it finished!!!!!!!! white97ex 11-21-2004, 01:33 PM well i've finally started back on this. i ordered some SMS CF decal and some microscale products. i'm going to CF the hood, the side mirrors, which will be taken form the cobra kit (if i can get the cf to take to it) and possible a front lip diffuser. and you will be glad to know that i am ordering a digicam in the next couple days 1986Z28 11-21-2004, 08:46 PM the wheels look awesome, keep up the good work Wheelin75r 11-22-2004, 04:27 AM and you will be glad to know that i am ordering a digicam in the next couple days :bigthumb: white97ex 11-24-2004, 04:44 PM well i got my digicam today. and am sorry to say that i am not impressed. It is the kodak cx7300. got it for 99 bucks. and was all i could afford, i tried to take some pictures of the carbon fiber on the hood but it is not showing up very well. does anyone have any tips? 99civichic 11-24-2004, 08:11 PM You have reached into my head and pulled ot my idea for my 69 Mach 1. No fair. Now I have to do something different!! :headshake Just kidding. Looks good so far. Sorry your digicam didn't work out, I'm actually trading my dad my XM radio system in my car for his digi, and I know it isn't going to work as well as the 35 mm, but it will be cheaper. I can spend $10 on a model kit instead of film and developing! white97ex 11-24-2004, 10:28 PM i hear ya on that one. i've got a really good minolta that i took a bunch of pictures of my models with just a little bit ago. im trying to fix my usb port right now so i can get them scanned in. If you plan on doing this to a 69 it wont bother me. learn from my mistakes lol. i would find a different kit. the amt isn't that great. 99civichic 11-25-2004, 01:38 AM Shucks, I already have the AMT kit. I've only seen one other '69 Mustang model and it was the Revell Shelby, those things have the ugliest hoods ever so I didn't buy it. Revell has a '70 Boss 302 kit, but I would want to build it stock. My dad's camera was a wash, it took aweful pics. Guess I'll be keeping my XM for now. primera man 11-25-2004, 03:44 AM Looks like a real good build coming up with this one. Dont worry about it not being a import etc....you build for yourself! white97ex 11-25-2004, 10:24 AM thanks for the words of encouragement guys. i got quite a bit done. the left turbo and exhaust is mounted and ran. im trying to find the parts for the right side as we speak. unfortunately i am workin today sucks to work at wal mart. pulling an 8 hour shift on thanks giving. oh well. its double time. hopefully i'll either get my USB port fixed or the pics scanned on my mom's computer. hopefully i can get this done pretty soon 76 maverick 11-25-2004, 11:11 AM Sorry to hear that you gotta work on turky day , that realy sucks man :disappoin white97ex 11-25-2004, 10:27 PM well, here are some pics i took with my 35 mm. hope that you enjoy. i've got both turbo's and exhaust pipes ran. all it lacks now is the rear end, intercooler and intake, and the battery and stuff....question. SMS carbon fiber, should i coat it with something? clear coat or dull coat? i've got duplicolor clear and testors dull coat. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069chassiside1.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069front1.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069interior1.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1082069side1-med.jpg drumcat 11-25-2004, 11:12 PM I'm not a Ford fan but this is going to be bad ass :D keep it up white97ex 11-25-2004, 11:29 PM thanks for the encouragement. i just started putting the intake on and well.....i forgot to test fit it before i did the hood. i could actually use a larger cowl. so im going to have to modify the intake..not to mention that i lost...errrrr misplaced the lower half that i need, seeing as how the 99 cobra kit comes with two different intake setups. off to hunt down that peice... spitfire143 11-26-2004, 12:57 AM I really like that caar!! Looks soo good!! Good job! SupaMan89T 11-26-2004, 01:54 AM Wow badass man! white97ex 11-26-2004, 01:57 AM well...i just GOT ER DUN...lol....i'll be taking them into town with me tomorrow to get some nite photos with this and my mach one together. so expect a completed thread by sunday Jurva 11-26-2004, 09:31 AM Looks very Fast Ford. I like this build. white97ex 11-26-2004, 11:11 AM here's a little preview of the finished product, sitting along side my mach 1 http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/10820twistedpair-med.jpg the pic is a little fuzzy bit it'll be alright tonioseven 11-26-2004, 11:32 AM Blue Oval C:sunglasse:sunglasselness ONEBADMK8 11-26-2004, 05:15 PM That came out real nice.
