I have a 1994 Grand Cherokee with 4.0L engine. The transmission would upshift all the way to 4th and Overdrive but when I come to a light, the truck would shake and then stall unless I put it in neutral. If I downshift it with my shifter to 2nd, it doesn't shake.
I changed the tranny fluid and filter, adjusted the throttle valve linkage and shift cables. There are no disgnotic codes stored in the ECM.
Any ideas before an expensive trip to the dealer?

Sounds like your tourque converter clutch solenoid is bad causing the torque converter to lock up and not dissengauge. When you put it in neutral it is just like having a vechile with a manual transmission when you engauge the clutch. Try going only to 2nd gear and see if you still have the problem.The TCC solenoid will only lock up in 3rd and 4th gear.It could be other things as simple as low fluid level. Check again for codes and check scantool to see if the TCC is locking and unlocking. Since when you down shift to 2nd the problem goes away I think it is TCC.
