FDTT 04-18-2005, 07:51 PM No Valve Ticking :d dmbrisket 51 04-18-2005, 09:14 PM No Valve Ticking :d ive found, through years of trial and error, that 5w30 work great for stoping valve ticking in both my honda and s 10  FDTT 04-18-2005, 09:19 PM ive found, through years of trial and error, that 5w30 work great for stoping valve ticking in both my honda and s 10  Im not quite understanding how this would work. Thin oil stopping valve clearance issues? Or are you being sarcastic? To take up valve clearance you woudl want to runa thicker oil to compensate for the larger clearances. And then there is the lifters that you need to worrie about to. not even thick oil can solve a bad lifter problem. Thats why i love my 7, $2500 for a brand new motor (everything is new on this thing, no mialage at all), ripped apart, streetported, better seals, ect. Good for another 200k, then rebuild. :D dmbrisket 51 04-18-2005, 09:26 PM i was being sarcastic, as in saying to stop the ticking noise add oil, its probibly low or has an ohc J-Rat 04-20-2005, 12:21 PM WTF?!? Why is it that everyone on AF has to come to the RX-7 section to start the hating? Are we like the red headed step children of the AF forums? I am growing tired of the "V8s are better then rotaries threads", the "your motors cant make torque" threads, the "Your motor doesnt last" threads, the "you get shitty gas mileage" threads.... This is why we need a rotary moderator in this section, so we can sift through all the bullshit that the AF Keyboard Racers come here and spew forth. ghostrx7 04-20-2005, 01:59 PM :iagree: there just jealous!most of there guys probably never even see one, let alone experienced a full throttle launch, 10 psi+ turbo pressure, and then whipping around a corner at 50mph fishtailing like a mofo!!!!!!!!ya, i cant say ive ever visited the honda section!lol, by the way,j-rat, nice ride u got there^. tubjub 04-20-2005, 05:08 PM damn, i knew i should have bought that rb25det instead of the j spec 13bt! lol... Hossain_Trance101 04-22-2005, 03:27 AM If I thought wrong abt rotaries, nice car u got there FDTT. I in fact like that particular model better than the new ones coz their shape seem more stylish and modern (sharp edged). DJ_Merle 05-04-2005, 10:01 PM I chose to get an RX-7 because my friends grandfather owned one and I thought it was beautiful. I have always loved fastbacks since I was a little. And when I saw the FC, I said "I'm buying one of those when I drvie" in which I have now got one:). Aruba27 05-06-2005, 12:49 AM I was maybe 13-14 when my dad explained to me the concept of the rotary. I was intrigued... but it didn't really get my attention till a friend of mine bought himself an 86 RX-7. I was 15 at the time, and riding in that car made me fall in love with it. I didn't even have to drive it. within a few months I started doing ridiculous amounts of research on it. I tried to save up for an 89 cuz I really wanted an S5 motor, but i didn't really get the chance to get enough money since i was still in high school. Currently... I still don't own a rotary, but i did get a chance to drive an FD. I fell in love with it imediately after getting through first gear. I finally have a job which will let me afford a more expensive car, so in a few months i will be able to buy an FD. I know how much money i'll have to put into it... but i definetly think it'll be worth it. Yes, I'm a young kid (only 19), I hate riced out cars, I thought fast and the furious was cool when it came out, but knowing what i know now, it's just ridiculous. once i do get my FD, I'm going to do very few cosmetic modifications. I plan to buy a spare set of aluminum racing rims with hoosier slicks for autocross, keep the stock ones with decent street tires, if it doesn't have a rear spoiler, i'll put a factory spoiler on it, anything much bigger is just dumb, and i might go with an R1 front spoiler... otherwise that's it. clean and sporty. I'll probably rebuild the engine within the first 10,000 miles because i don't trust most consumers with the "break in" period. 3mm apex seals are a must, and do large street port as well while she's appart. most mods will be for reliability and power (minus the porting.. i know how it is). i'm still researching what radiators/intercoolers work best... but i have yet to even buy the car, so that'll all come later. BlindspottNZ 05-06-2005, 10:19 PM I wd like to write abt some crap that rotary engines do have in common (but especially by RX-7). I have heard that they stuff up very freq like abt every 60,000 km and the RX-7, with extremely poor fuel economy, consume even more than an average GMC 5.7L V8 engine. In addition, the stock RX-7 produces a mere 175 kw (compared to the GTR which does abt 206 kw) and has a 0-100km/h accel of a lousy 6.9 secs. Mazda set a high price on it as though its some fancy car... I am telling u, they empty ur pockets for garbage. HAHAHAHA :screwy: Yea, the rx7 will do 60,000kms on an engine... If your a compete noob, hardly ever change the oil, strap it everywhere you go, dont let it warm up and cool down.... Ive seen older rx7s with well over 200,000km on the clock and still running fine, they just need good matanience and they will last extremely poor fuel economy? i would compare it to a 2.6 litre 6 cyclinder in both performance and economy... and im gathering you drive a GTR so you cant really talk  5.7 litre GMC V8 - the rotary is lighter, has faaaaarrr less moving parts (under 10 instead of 100+) and is 1.3 litre (or 2.6 depending how you want to measure it) and it would still give it a go fancy garbage? An FD is serious compeition for a GTR, and if you ever happen to line up a heavily modded one (your sig says somthing about a 700hp GTR which IS fairly nice :P) then m sure you would be in for a surprise. D3rELiC 05-06-2005, 11:25 PM (your sig says somthing about a 700hp GTR which IS fairly nice :P) bottles are for babies, and i dont like the way he put an emphasis on his spoiler BlindspottNZ 05-06-2005, 11:37 PM hahah yea i know what you mean, got any more shots of your GTR mate? ghostrx7 05-07-2005, 11:09 AM he owns a maxima, and anyone that talks about decals is clueless..... Chris V 05-19-2005, 07:57 AM I had had many rotary cars for years. R100, RX2, RX3s, and a few RX7s, as well as crewing for an RX2 rallye car, and an IMSA RS series RX3 (the team also campaigned a rotary powered formula car). I've rebuilt rotaries on my kitchen table... (which is fine when you're single...). I've also had many 4cy,l, 6 cyl, and 8 cyl race cars (over a hundred cars total in the last 28 years). I got my first RX3 back in '84. it was a '73 model, and I put in a '75 single dizzy engine that I had ported pretty large on both the intake and exhaust. It had a Racing Beat header and intake manifold to mount a Holley 600cfm carb, and a 12 lb aluminum flywheel. Made about 170 hp at 9250 rpm, and almost no useable power below 3500 rpm. it was a serious PITA to drive on the street, as you had to rev it up and let the clutch out pretty quickly to take off without stalling. But it was fun to take on teh musclecars back in teh day (most of them were just jacked up Novas and overcammed Camaros, so a 13 second street car could easily take them on). http://mywebpages.comcast.net/cvetters3/RX3.jpg After that I had an R100 with the 10A engine, an RX2 coupe, another RX3, then an SA RX7, an FB RX7, and an FC. This is my last one when I first set it up for autocross: http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pics/467569a.jpg And this was it after it got painted in the first part of '93: http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pics/467569b.jpg http://www.supercars.net/pitlane/pics/467569c.jpg This was the form it was in when it got it's season championship in autocross, before the stock 143 hp 13B died. I still think the FC is one of the best looking cars of it's era, and possibly one of the best chassis available in anything under $30k. I've been lucky enough to drive a lot of different cars on the track, from Pintos to Porsches, both as my own cars and as an instructor for SCCA and BSCC, so I have a point of comparison to make that claim from. BlindspottNZ 05-19-2005, 10:49 PM heh sweet rx3 man, go the 10A fronts ;) im just about to repaint/rebuild my '73 sedan.
