Probe died on the motorway

Hi everyone

I have a Ford 2.5. Been happy with it. Going down the motorway at about 70mph the other day and the speedo and the rev counter started to drop. Got over to the hard shoulder and the engine died. I turn it over but it doesnt fire. Any Ideas to the cause?
