'90 Accord EX Exhaust QuestionShenlung 11-01-2004, 12:16 AM I recently bought a 1990 honda accord EX. When I bought it, it had no muffler or catalytic converter(guessing on the converter). The clamp that the muffler assembly bolts to had rusted through, making the muffler fall off. I have a new muffler, but it doesn't have the clamp piece on it, and I want to know if I can just buy a new clamp piece with the bolt plate (thingy) and clamp the two together, or if I should just scrap the entire exhaust from the manifold, and put in a whole new system. I'm not exactly knowledgable about the terms, so google searching has provided me with no information, but I learn quick, and I am damned good with my hands. If someone could give me a website that would have an exploded view of the exhaust system, I could find the name of the piece I am looking for, and provide more information than I have. If you look at a catalytic converter, the piece I need is the thing on the end of it that you put the bolts through. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Shenlung 11-01-2004, 12:38 AM Ok, I have the catalytic converter, and the bolt plate is intact on the catalytic converter, but the muffler didn't come witht he botl plate, and the old one is too rusted out to be reused. I need a new ?bolt plate assembly? The actual name would be an awesome help, and not even honda.com seems to have a clue what I'm asking for. scubawrstlr 11-01-2004, 11:32 AM This is what I have found. this is the exhaust breakdown for a 90 ex coupe 4 speed auto (http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&catcgry1=Accord&catcgry2=1990&catcgry3=2DR+EX&catcgry4=KL4AT&catcgry5=EXHAUST+SYSTEM) If that isn't your exact car, then go here and configure the settings to what you have (http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/catdisplay.jsp?inputstate=4&catcgry1=Accord&catcgry2=1990&catcgry3=2DR+EX&catcgry4=KL4AT&catcgry5=) Good luck, I hope this helps. henrymv 11-01-2004, 05:25 PM Why not just take it to a mom and pop enhaust shop and have them weld all the pieces together and that why it is all sealed together and you are done with the problem?? Igovert500 11-01-2004, 05:42 PM Same exact thing happened to me a few years ago...I was in the midst of a 200 mile drive, so I stopped a a local muffler shop and they fixed it in 20 mins for $70...I'm with henry, they'll have all the necessary parts right there. Shenlung 11-02-2004, 10:10 PM The website helped, it told me that they don't even have the part I need, the muffler has it attached before you purchase it. The reason I don't go to a mom and pop and have it done is that I'd have to drive it there, and my car is too illegal to even start right this second. Besides, I'm running on a budget of about 25 cents right now, so it would be WAY better if I could do it myself. I'm just gonna pull the old one, grind and buff the rust off it, and weld it myself. I know how to weld, and I know the placement, so it shouldn't be too much work. After I get some money up, I'm gonna put flowmaster on it anyways, so it's all good. Thanks for the help though. scubawrstlr 11-03-2004, 10:09 PM glad to help. I understand the 25 cent budget, been there, sure i'll be there again. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
