is this GSR worth it?94tegRS 10-30-2004, 08:01 PM ok, I found a GSR for sale over here oln the east coast and I am on vacation here so I am wondering if you think its a good deal, reasonable or too high of a price. the mileage is kinnda high but as far as I have been told it runs/drives PERFECT. now the interior as I was told is really clean and I saw a pic of the dash, one door panel, front seats and it all looks MINT. the body is PERFECT also, he had it painted a dark blue color and they had a run in the clear coat so he went back and it has been wet sanded and re-buffed and looks NICE. has 17" chrome 7 spokes, cuztom shift knob is about the only thing not stock. original B17, but 170k miles on it. it is $4k and hes gonna meet me halfway, I only have 3500 though so Im gonna try and work the price down to 3500 and see what hell do. ill post the pics I have in a second, they are HUGE though so I dont think it will let me. Jetts 10-30-2004, 08:08 PM hmm didnt work what year is it? 94tegRS 10-30-2004, 08:11 PM yep, they are way too big, I will resize them later and upload them, dont feel liek it now. 94tegRS 10-30-2004, 08:11 PM ooh, forgot the most important part. 92. b18ls 10-30-2004, 09:18 PM I'd save a little more and go with this one. It's a couple of years newer and he's asking $5,500. You might be able to talk him down a little. My 2cents. I'm a big DC2 fan! http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=309166 94tegRS 10-30-2004, 10:53 PM I like em too, but this car I am looking at is MINT, also it has the agressor bumper I think, and the paint is metallic. looks sweet, id ditch the rims and get me some hyper black VX-8's w/ polished lip or something though, not a big fan of chrome, only on black would I go chrome blue mixes pretty good but I like darker rims on blue cars better, although you can pull off white wheels with certain blues, but not this one IMO 94tegRS 10-30-2004, 11:15 PM well here you go, some big pics. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/12740teg1.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/12740teg2.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/12740teg3.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/12740teg4.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/12740teg5.jpg 94tegRS 10-30-2004, 11:23 PM well, when they are huge and crystal clear like they are on my comp that paint just SPARKLES in the sun. and private party book is 3450, so if I can get it for 3500 id be happy. long ass drive home though. luckily ill have cruise, when I drive thousands of miles I have a tendancy to go about 30MPH over the speedlimit after my lead foots had a while to slowly get me going faster and faster. and with high mileage I dont wanna have it revving high. I have some things to sell then id probably get a new oil pump, water pump, t belt, rings/bearings, CTR intake, ITR exhaust cams and maybe some CTR pistons and a VAFC, new clutch too. but that would take a couple months but I like the fast that I have to do ZERO repairs at all before I get to start making it nicer/faster, every car I have boughten so far in my life has already been in the middle of project-car stage and needed all this work before I even got to start on the fun stuff. Jetts 10-31-2004, 01:41 AM looks nice, do what you think is right 94tegRS 10-31-2004, 12:33 PM well, not exactly what I wanted to hear, if it was you, you'd.........? I know it is my decision in the end but I wanted to herar other peoples impression of it to make sure Im just not blinded by the nice car and forget how valuable cash is. kevin85193 10-31-2004, 04:17 PM IMO, I wouldn't buy it. 170k miles? too much if you ask me.. unless you do a swap :0 94tegRS 10-31-2004, 06:06 PM well I wouldnt swap the B17, even for something better, Id want it original, Id just get the ITR/CTR cam combo, maybe some ITR pistons, new bearings/rings/seals/gaskets, and maybe some new cam followers. what style mznifold fits it, B16/B18C5 style manifold would work if I wanted a aftermarket one? and what code is the tranny in the first GSR? seems like theyd be rare/pricey unless they are just a standard tranny that comes with B16 swaps as well which wear down more the cam lobes themselves or the followers, Im assuming it wont be THAT quick cuz my friend drove one that had 150k on it and it ran good but when he stepped on it it didnt pull too hard and evben when vtec hit it just didnt have the pull like his B16 powered 2nd gen did. Im assuming either lost compression or lobes/followers were worn so valves not opening too much anymore. so your deal with it is the milage not the price cuz with a swap it would be even more. got money rounded up so Im pretty sure Im gonna get it if it checks out when I go look at it. Jetts 10-31-2004, 09:29 PM if it was me i would buy a isuzu space cab, but it does LOOK nice that doesnt mean its nice 94tegRS 10-31-2004, 10:18 PM well, yes it looks nice means it IS nice, maybe doesnt ruun nice or drive nice but Im gonna drive it and listen to it and make sure axles dont click, clutch doesnt squeal/grind on engagement, all options work, tires sit straight(or evenly negative cambered cuz of drop) and stuff like that, Ill be very skeptical seeing as I need it to go like 3k miles to get me home. hopefully itll get me at least 25 on the freeway(see no propblem there though, my B18 hatch (lower revving at 60 and less weight though of course) gets lke 28-29 cruising at 90, so I should be able to get home on about 270 bucks if the national average for supreme is 2.25, I heard that in like the middle/eastern part of the US its pretty cheap, so it should balance out the 2.45's in some places. Jetts 10-31-2004, 10:23 PM supreme? jsut use unleaded 94tegRS 11-01-2004, 01:58 AM well it is unleaded, supreme unleaded, then theirs the premium unleaded, and the regular unl;eaded, but I dont wanna run 87 in a high compression GSR. I especially want NO detonation with 170k worth of wear on parts already gsr916 11-01-2004, 02:36 AM I think you should buy it, that car looks hella tight and if you already are planning on getting new rings/bearings that is practically a rebuild so who cares if there is 170k on the motor. And yea, do not use 87 octane, even if someone says "oh its all the same." GSRs are high compression, maybe not as high as CTR or ITR but you never know how close you would be to detonation with lower octane fuel. It calls for premium fuel for a reason... it burns cooler and helps prevent detonation. Everything works together, quench areas in the combustion chamber, aluminum block, and higher octane fuel to prevent fuel detonation. If you ran your engine somewhat hard, making it a little hotter than normal... you might detonate if you used 87 octane fuel. 94tegRS 11-01-2004, 03:04 AM Im for sure taking it easy MOST of the way so at least Im close to my jack/tools if something goes wrong but if some punk comes up in some litle riced out CRX or something I just might have to shiw him what the B17 can do(never even driven one or even seen one for that matter so its gonna show me what it can do soon, hopefully its about what a B16 with bolt-ons feels like in the exact same car cuz that ive driven vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
