i was looking up gt500 pictures because i am starting to rebuild mine. I found alot of people say u cant buy them and nobody makes them...but AMT does. Im not to sure if they still produce it. Back when i built mine(5 years ago)it was pretty nice. Better than most AMT's.

Okay, the Shelby GT500 was only produced in three years, 1967, 1968, and 1969. It was basically a big block variant of the infamous road racing GT350.

AMT kitted the '68 in 1968, a reissue of that kit being what you're looking at on that site. It has quite poor detail, even for the time, that includes an improperly proportioned rear end, a too-sharp angle to the nose, chromed head and tail-lights, a one piece chassis, and hollow tires. Really a very bad kit that should've stayed in the vaults.

The AMT 1967 kit was quite the opposite, being an accurately modified variant of their stellar 1967 Mustang GT kit. The only sticking point was that the fascias for the Shelby 'Stang were somewhat sloppy in their fit and require a lot of sanding and puttying to get perfect.

Revell kitted the '69 Shelby in the mid-80's, working from their good (if flawed) 1969 428CJ Mustang kit. The 428CJ kit had an inaccurately shaped grille and nose, but thanks to the completely different nose of the Shelby Mustangs, the kit was saved and turned into one of the true gems of Revell's muscle car kit line.

Of the three kits, two are still in production (the 68 and 69) while the 67 is becoming rare but not so rare that you can't find it and have to pay exorbitant amounts of money. Check out www.modelcarkits.com and www.modelexpress.net to see if they land a copy.

Wow, I actually have the AMT '67 GT350 and '68 GT 500 next in line to build! After I finish the 5 kits I've got going right now that is

Will also has a '68 GT500 in his lineup, but the box is different? Mine is red on the box, his is blue.

I've passed on buying the '69 over and over, I just can't get past the 5 hoodscoops.

Rest assured, civichic, there aren't multiple versions of the AMT 1968 Shelby GT500. They're all the same piss-poor relic.

This is Will69camaro:

We both know there aren't multiple castings she was just saying different boxes. I gave her the 67 and 68 shelby's. I won a few ebay auctions and the guy was on my drive home from college so i asked him what else he had and i ended up spending 100 bucks on models but i got the following:

67 shelby GT-350 (1)
68 shelby GT-500 (2)
Fujimi GT40
Revell GT40
Tamiya R33 skyline GTR
Monogram 70 Trans AM
Revell 32 3-window
Fujimi 427 Shelby Cobra
Misc paints and putties, magazines and atleast 1-2 other models i'm forgetting right now. The main ones i got where the GT40's and the Cobra i thought :)
