2001 Suburban dies at startupbaldwin 10-28-2004, 05:00 PM A few days ago, I tried to start my 2001 suburban 1500 4wd, and after idling for 1 or two seconds, it just died. It worked normally for a while, and then again today, I had to make several attempts to get it started and finally succeeded by giving it extra gas and letting the engine race for a while. When I parked the car, I shut it off and then tried restarting it again. It started up and again died after about 2 seconds. I'm going to try changing the fuel filter and air filter. Any other suggestions? Is there a way to adjust the idle speed? baldwin 11-03-2004, 10:24 AM I replaced the air filter and fuel filter a few days ago, and my truck ran fine for a few days. Yesterday, it just stalled while I was driving and took several tries to get it restarted. Whevenver I slowed at a traffic light, the idle RPMs dropped very low (300-400) and it threatened to die but managed to make it home. Right after I changed the fuel filter, the Engine Service Soon light came on, and I figured it was because I killed the fuel pump to depressurize the line before replacing the filter. The light stayed on for about a day and then went out. Since then it has not come back on. Any ideas what could be causing this? Does it sound like a fuel pump problem? fornvasn 11-09-2004, 12:58 PM try i do a fuel injection service. you might have alot of carbon deposit in the intake. clean the idle control unit ( if its has it). that sure help...i hope.. GOOD LUCK gregory914 11-10-2004, 10:14 AM You may also want to get a code reader and find out what codes are stored in your computer. That could shed some light on a lot of "issues" your having. Some parts stores will read your codes for free and actualy let you know what they mean! FishB8s 11-12-2004, 10:16 AM I had the same symptoms w/ my 01 Suburban. It would cut off when I took my foot off the gas. It turned out to be the fuel injectors. I had them cleaned (cost over $100) and she runs great. Good luck. baldwin 11-15-2004, 07:36 PM I finally solved my problem. It turned out to be a loose battery cable! The battery connection was intermittent which meant that sometimes, my fuel pump was running directly off of the alternator, so when the idle speed dropped, the fuel pump slowed down to the point that the engine would die. I finally figured it out when one day, I couldn't start the truck at all and noticed that I'd comletely lost the electrical system. I opened the hood and the lights came back on, so I pulled on the battery cable and sure enough, it was loose. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
