alright......the story is i have a 1996 chevy cavalier and completely stock right now except system.......and i followed this about a 1985-8 mustang(his car didnt look to hot except the cowl induction hood) till we got to a red light and i pulled over and got in the other lane beside him and we both looked each other and we noded and then i noticed the GT on his car.....i looked to my passenger and said shit its a gt.....well we took off i had a good launch......he didnt so i got about a car length on him and stayed the same till about 85-90 and all the sudden i couldnt hear anything from where his blower kicked in and he blows by me like i was goin in reverse so i just shut down there and i saw him about a mile down the road in a turnin lane i slowed down and passed him and gave him a thumbs up and honked he did the same back to me.....but it wasnt a bad lose b/c i am stock

not bad...but a blower takes that long to kick in?? i dont kno much about them...i just think it'd be like VTEC or somethin and kick in at high RPMs or somethin...but i'm clueless when it comes to blowers...

Blowers don't kick in late, the power is usually instantaneous. Even with a centrifugal blower (belt-driven turbo), the power comes on quickly. Chances are , however, that with a large cowl hood, his blower sat on top of his intake manifold, ruling out the centrifugal option. My guess is the reason of the delay was that he sat at the light spinning the tires while you took off. Once his street tires hooked, he took off.

either that or he was letting you get ahead so that he could blow by you.

i see so many stock mustangs where i live that have HUGE 5" cowl hoods and monster friggin' tires in the back. Flowmaster mufflers and that's about it. They sometimes try to f*ck with me but since we all grew up in this neighborhood they know who i am and what i have done to my car. :) but sometimes.......only sometimes they try it. i don't really like them, they're just a bunch of cowboys who think that with a big hood and tires they have all-out dragsters.

I've seen 'em.

Even saw one run at Speedworld, with a primered cowl, with the rest white, and it ran - get this - 15.1.

Think one of them will run my Sentra? http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/evil_lol.gif

I get it more from fellow Mustang owners then anybody else. Your right! A huge cowl hood and flowmasters doesn't do anything.

:1: No blower just "kicks in" at 85mph. I he left you like you were standing still then he was playing with you.

Pagani Zonda foo! :uhoh:

Hah, j/p. I doubt his blower kicked in at 85.....he HAD to have been messing with you.

In regards to being a blown car, centrifugal blowers generally build boost slower (linear boost curve) compared to a roots blown motor, which is full boost off-idle. I doubt his blower only "kicked" in later. It also could be the fact he was running a huge cam and there was a serious loss of low-end torque. And, he certainly could have been madly pedaling to finally hook up the measly street tires. You can never really know.

CBFryman

or maybe people can stop saying "he was just playin with ya" over and over and over and over and over and over aigan... For thoes who dont know much about FI go to Cars in General > Forced Induction and read how turbos owrk etc etc etc...
