Radiator or Gasket??Leader100 10-26-2004, 01:56 PM Hello all--I am atttempting to locate the heating-up problems in my 99 Cav..113K miles! I have already by-passed the Heater--installed a new thermostat--no noise or leaks noticed from water pump and the engine gets real hot real fast--while the radiator stays relatively cool! Lots of pressure on the hoses... Coolant/Water looks clean--not rusty--as entire engine is maintained in good fashion..cant imagine a rust clog... can anyone suggest the next item to go after? Thanks for your help..Ed BlazerLT 10-26-2004, 02:28 PM Check you rad cap. If it is not sealing, it will cause the overheating. Open your rad when it is completely cool after sitting overnight and come back here and tell us what the level is. Leader100 10-26-2004, 02:43 PM Check you rad cap. Thanks--i have cranked it up several times...and the cap is tight! no leaks there... please tell me what you recommend..start it..let it run til hot...let it rest overnight ? Do I have it? Ed BlazerLT 10-26-2004, 03:01 PM It doesn't leak out, it sucks air IN when it is cooling while sitting. Just go out in the morning and open the rad cap and see if the rad is full in the morning after sitting overnight will ya. Cranking the rad cap on doesn't do dick for an air leak coming in. I am not talking about the overflow can lid, I am talking about the actual rad cap on top of the rad. Gotcha..Got home late last nite...all I had time to do was reattach my hoses ... but first I hosed out the radiator and found some dark water coming out the other side...hosed it until the water was clean, reattached hoses...( I drove another vehicle Tuesday) and ran the engine for 15-20 minutes...ran very cool...hummm....will keep you informed!.. Thanks, Ed..( I will check water level--thanks) Ed BlazerLT 10-27-2004, 06:49 PM Just make sure you are using coolant for the fill and not straight water.
