Maxima mufflerninety2vette 10-25-2004, 09:51 PM I have 2000 Maxima and I damaged the muffler. I live in Minnesota, but the car has the California emisions. The Nissan dealer wants $550 to replace just the muffler as he says its a special emissions type and by putting a standard muffler on it may effect the computer. Does anyone know if this is true? Thanks IH8SPM 10-31-2004, 12:01 AM Yes and No. The computer can read signals from the rear O2 sensor and therfore trigger a CEL. I have never heard of this being true for the muffler. Since the O2 sensor is in front of the cat, different mufflers shouldn't affect the computer(?). But I'll find out.
