Will a transmission from an early (81-90) Escort/EXP bolt up to a later (91-96) Escort engine?

It will so long as it's the Ford 1.9 and not the Mazda 1.8. The two engines have different tranny bolt patterns from what I've heard. Look for a Ford MTX 3 or MTX4. The 4's are tougher, and came in the 3.0 Tempos.
