and when that nosie started, 30 sec. or so after i start my car my rpms drop and my car feels like its gona to die out untill i give it a little gas its back to normal or untill i shut off the car. has anyone experienced this?

i dont think so, my alt. and my cam gear are very close and the noise is coming from there, the only belt areound there is my timing....that can't cause my problem can it?

This is what I did. I took the extension tube from a Shop Vac Vacuum cleaner. I put it up to my right ear and then systematically moved the open end of the tube to different spinning and moving parts of the engine bay. Once I reached the offending sound producer you could hear it louder than anything else in the engine bay. It turned out to be a bad alternator in my case. This method is cheap and effective and safe so long as you don't have long hair, a long chain, a tie, or loose clothing that could catch onto something moving. if it's not your aternator, it could be a belt tensioner, or pully bearing.
