S15 Silvia Swap in and out! NEED ADVICE!iNOS_DragRacer 10-18-2004, 10:39 PM Hey everyone! I'm looking into getting a 1995-1998 240SX and completely converting it into an S15 Silvia, or as much as possible. I have alot of places where I can convert the front end (What places don't have the front end conversion though, right?). I can mold in the S15 Taillights and I can drop the SR20DET, but one of my major wants, is an S15 Silvia interior: RHD, Lightning Logo, all that! But I'm not quite sure how much that's going to cost! I don't have enough automotive experience yet to do it myself so I wanted to know, if I got an entire S15 front clip, how much would you guess it would cost to put all the interior parts in AND convert to RHD? Including making custom door panels, and center console to fit the dash. I also need to know how much a shop would charge to drop the SR20DET for me. Remember, I'm only asking for labor costs, I already know how much the parts are! Can't wait for your input!! thegladhatter 10-18-2004, 10:59 PM Pull the other one. 240sxAddict 10-18-2004, 11:05 PM long answer. you wouldn't want to do that even if it DID line up. think about it. your car is designed and put together to work safely and protect you in the event of a crash. if you weld on the front end of another car, then your front crumple zone is basically ruined. you get in a frontal crash, and all you're relying on is a couple of welds to save your life. the whole front of the car might just snap off. it would probably have alot less structural rigidity as well. here is wat suislide told some guy that ask the similar question only it was about a skyline front clip but it would b the same Tims_240 10-18-2004, 11:46 PM actually the guy before this asked if he could weld the front end on his 240 lol, he is asking a completely different question, but i would guess since alot of shops that you take it to have never done this before it will cost alot. 240sxAddict 10-18-2004, 11:52 PM actually the guy before this asked if he could weld the front end on his 240 lol, he is asking a completely different question, but i would guess since alot of shops that you take it to have never done this before it will cost alot. yea true but this this guy wants the rhd stuff that means the front clip wil have 2 b welded on 2 unless he is looking 2 spend a lot of money on ripping the interior out and the dash and installing the rhd on it 2 fit and cutting a hole on it 2 make the steering thingy ( i cant remember the name) go on the right side. so go for it if u want but lot of money. GT500916 10-19-2004, 12:06 AM dudes dudes! if you wanna do all this, the whole swap and change over everything the entire car, the labor alone is gonna cost you up your butt! The labor for the front conversion would cost like $2,000 the rear would be even more because you would have to change the whole rear framing and stuff... so thats like maybe $3,000+ then the interior with the whole swap tot he RHD thats gonna cost like $5,000 thats how much it is to go from right to left, so ill just say the same price from left to right lol. The engine swap will cost you another $3,000 with everything to work right, then the tranny another $1,000 dont know what else you gonna be changing over and want labor prices, and these are all off top of my head, im sure people can do it cheaper, but think about it thats $14,000 right there for all the work and labor. Then if you put parts like for the engine $2,000 the maybe a rebuild for that and parts and labor another $2,000 then front conversion pieces another $2,000 rear conversion parts about $1,000+ interior another $2,000 or soo.... so $14,000+$9,000= $23,000 and what do you accomplish for $23,000 + the price for the car $7,000 = $30,000.... Dude for $30,000 if i were you i would personally go down to Japan or Australia and pick out a Silvia of your choice and buy it on the spot for like $15,000 then ship it here to the US for another $5,000 and WALLAA!! You save $10,000 and no wasting all that time swapping , hasstles, waiting for ever and ever for it to be done... Thats kinda what i was thinking doing with a Skyline when i sell my GT500E for $40,000 in a few months, just gonna go down to Japan or Australia and buy me a SKy and ship it over. Im sure some of my numbers are probably higher than other, but im just giving you an idea and its gonna be freaken pricy and time consuming. INO go with plan B , go to JAPAN and ship one over. 240sxAddict 10-19-2004, 12:28 AM see i knew it it was going 2 b alot of cash rps13freak 10-19-2004, 04:55 PM RHD, Lightning Logo, all that! and a bag of chips! SHO411 10-19-2004, 05:16 PM I would sell my wife GT500, my top two most loved cars are the R34 and GT500, both tied at number one, I can't see getting rid of one to get the other. Other than any Homo stuff, I would do anything to get that GT500, including selling my Kidney. R.W.240 10-19-2004, 06:08 PM Hey everyone! Like all of you said, that's too dangerous, too expensive and would probably be too ugly! And as for the taillights, I just want them fabricated in the way you'd do a S2000 or R34 taillight swap, I don't want them to exactly mach teh Silvia. Well, from all of your advice it sounds cheaper to straight up buy a Silvia, and considering I live in Michigan, it's quite difficult to just run out to Japan like it's a car lot, so does anyone have any websites that have been known to sell Silvia's? thegladhatter 10-19-2004, 07:36 PM ...so does anyone have any websites that have been known to sell Silvia's?
